Put boys baseball on all dirt infields and see what an uproar that would cause, but for some reason a few in here think it ok for girls to play with grass infields. Fastpitch has DIRT, not grass infields.

THERE'S A MENS SOFTBALL FIELD IN RIGHT FIELD OF THE BOYS BASEBALL FIELD! Nobody says boo. It's called comprimise.

Nothing wrong with fastpitch on grass. The only people who don't like it are bunter/slapper girls that can't hit like real athletes but can run.
The days of the short game are numbered.
The days of finch and company dominating games is over.

Can't say as I agree with your assesment of the future of the game either. So long as the basepaths remain the same, speed will ALWAYS be a huge part of the game.

Downey HS has enclosed baseball field, batting cage, bullpen, snackbar,sound system, scoreboard, covered cinderblock dugouts. Girls have a sorry ass field with a metal manhole cover(big ones like you find in a street) just past rt field foul line, a bench that is the dugout, no fence, no scoreboard, they have a cage, outfield uneven and a bleacher 60 ft away from the field that just seems to be there.

Modesto High baseball has enclosed field, cinderblock covered dugouts, batting cage, sweet playing surface, enclosed to keep public off, storage area, bullpen area. Girls have a sorry arse field, blacktop with a bench on it for a dugout, concrete conglomerate going up at a 40 degree angle right next to in play area, a recently removed tree stumps sticking out of the ground in play down RF line that is very dangerous, no storage area, no batting cage, no fences, their field backs up into the JV field. Though they do have a nice portable classroom in Rf that balls could hit to keep you from rounding the bases.

I could continue on for 5 more schools that are about the same, but the kicker is Pitman in Turlock. The school is somewhat new and has 2 baseball fields on campus. One of which is minor league complex worthy. It is SWEET. They have toms of space, and they have NO FASTPITCH fields on campus. The girls use city fields with no fences adjacent to the HS. Girls have obviously no storage area, no cages, no NOTHING except a field. Boys have EVERYTHING a minor league baseball team would have.


Now how the hell is that compromise coach?

Where I grew up it's the opposite. The baseball fields are in the park and the softball fields are on campus. The Jr high adjacent to the high school has four more fastpitch diamonds. There is also a multi use skinned diamond in the park but last time I was there the field had a mound. With that being said the baseball fields look better than the softball fields.

I do have a question for all those interested? What would it take for there to be complete equality? What is considered preference and what is considered necessity (i.e. dugout materials, fences, etc). Certain things are black and white. If one gets a scoreboard so should the other. Some are not.

Why don't schools combine resources? I mean certain things like hitting facilities are not exclusive or differ between the two sports. The problem is that the two sports are not planned together. The baseball people worry about baseball. The softball people worry about softball. If the sports are so equivalent why don't people plan then jointly? In sports like Volleyball/Basketball/Wrestling they all use the gym and have what they need to do what they want. I just think if you work with baseball instead of against baseball you'd probably get more done.

Recently Darien was hit with a title ix complaint- put in a new turf baseball field, fences dugouts etc.... with donated money. District had to re-do softball field, new dugouts, batting cages etc...(Darien has more female athletes than males)

In our town- both baseball and softball play at beautiful local parks- both fields are outdated. Baseball has a fence and batting cages. Softball cage was removed because it was on top of an international gas line. No fence at softball field

It’s a shame that a simple request to answer a few question as to the state of your high school fields, turns into a Pissing match. Who cares if Iluvblue wants to fight a losing battle, let him? Who knows maybe he can take all that energy he has and do some good with it. Bottom line is until the rec programs get it together to actually produce players and grow interest in the community. They will never be given the same amount of money as the Boys. Obviously there are some towns that do a good job, but for the most part ILB is correct. The boys get better fields than the girls. Thank God for travel ball, at least our girls have good places to play on the weekend that belongs to them!

And our school has great fields for both boys and girls.

Oh Boy:) Trust me, this is anything but a losing battle. This is the easiest battle there could be. It just took getting the right people in on the fight. Once some people looked at the state of some fields, they were blown away at what they saw.

This will be like taking candy from a baby. There is no defense, and OBVIOUS violations all over the place. And it also has NOTHING to do with the interest or level of play from the rec leagues, or players. Simple inequities.... thats it. Case closed.

Sounds like you've got legitimate concerns. And I actually agree with you that something needs to be done.

My only point was (and is) that forcing a school district to comply with Title IV can have adverse affects. You've got 7(?) schools in the district. Bringing them all in compliance is going to cost a bunch of money. And I don't know how it works.....would they ALL have to be brought into compliance within a given time? That would be my guess. That money is going to have to come from somewhere.
Money allocated for other, existing expenses will have to be reallocated. In some shape or form, some other program or programs will suffer because of it.
I'm a big believer in the importance of HS sports. But always as a secondary role to academics.

Remember the old addage....."Be careful what you wish for. You just may get it."

One person can make a difference and I wish the best for Iluvblue. Here in Illinois 5 years ago a father went to our school dist. and told them that he was willing to fight for Title IV. Our baseball fields were nice but the softball fields not so much. The School Dist. knew they were not going to win the fight and started making changes to all the girls softball fields and other sports to equal what the boys have. As of today both the softball fields and baseball fields have good seating, nice fencing and batting cages. This one parent who's child has graduated still checkes in to make sure everything is equal. As a parent of a Sr. girl playing ball and another coming in to H.S. next year I'm very thankful someone stood up and was willing to fight for the girls.

My oldest daughter went to Tenn. to play some H.S. games a few weeks ago. She told me that one H.S. has a Stadium ( Poss. Harrisburg, team is in the top 25 Nationally ) that put college stadiums to shame. She told us it was nicer then the university of Northwestern and Northern ILL U. Again good luck Iluvblue.
