Travel ball Practice during School ball season.

by rodneyburr » Mon Mar 21, 2011 8:33 am

Help!!!!!!!
I am an assistant coach for a High School in the central Valley. I also coach a 16U Travel team. I have been given some conflicting info on if I can be at our Travel ball Clinics. I have 3-girls on my high school and travel team. I know that I can not coach the 3-high school players on sunday, but is it alright to coach them at a "Clinic" on a Saturday.

Thanks For the help.

If you are in the CIF SAC-JOAQUIN section you can even PRACTICE with your team. No need to call it a "clinic".

These are off the CIF Sac-Joaquin website. Note that each Section within CIF has their own bylaws and constitution, so what is a rule in LA (SoCal Section) or Salinas (Central Coast Section) or San Diego (South Coast Section) may be different than that in the Sac-Joaquin Section.

SPRING SPORTS DEAD PERIOD

The spring sports dead period begins on Monday, January 17 and will continue until the first day of spring practice, February 7. According to SJS Bylaw 511.6, "During a Sac-Joaquin Section dead period, no member of the coaching staff (paid or volunteer) may not have any contact with his/her athletes and use the sports equipment for their given sport. Weight training and conditioning are the only activities that will be allowed during those time periods. Coaches may be present during weight training and conditioning.
NOTE: The use of outside agencies is not allowed to circumvent the "dead period."
Important Spring Sports Dates:
First day of practice – February 7
First scrimmage – February 19
First contest – February 25
Pitchers and catchers may play catch (no bats and no fielders) – January 31-Feb. 5

ARTICLE 6 OUTSIDE COMPETITION
600. COMPETITION ON AN OUTSIDE TEAM. A student on a high school team becomes ineligible if the student competes in a contest on an “outside” team, in the same sport, during the student’s high school season of sport (See Bylaw 511). The following exceptions apply:
A. If the outside team has half or more of the team members as stated in the National Federation Rules Book for
that sport, it shall be considered the same sport. Examples: three on three basketball — outside team

The best thing to do is contact your CIF Commissioner for your area....I have enclosed the link for you. Don't put your girls in jeopardy of losing eligibility! When I have contacted commissioners in the past they were very helpful. Please post the answer you got....

Got a hold of the CIF in my area.
Yes, I can "practice" with my team as long as it is not on Sundays.
Thanks for the help.

Great to hear! Are you posting the details of your clinic. Not many clinics go on in the central valley. You may want to post some details....I'm sure there will be interest! :D
