He should just take Tigers advice and move to Florida. Phil's CA tax rate of over 13% is a lot of moolah being paid into a failed system.
Ladies, if a man tells you he will fix it, he will fix it. There is no reason to remind him about it every six months.

Although I agree with everything he says, Phil should realize that most people will not feel sorry for someone that owns their own jet. He would be better of making those financial decisions in private. His points were valid, but as the "everyman" of golf he probably alienated himself from som of his fans.

One of the problems with targeting a certain strata on taxes is that they also have choices. So if Phil moves(and others) not only does Cal. lose the additional revenue, but they lose the revenue they already collect.

So the takers are telling the makers what to do? If Phil wants to leave, who can blame him? He is only keeping 38 cents of every dollar he EARNS by living in CA. The takers are sure feeling empowered ever since they elected their king obumbles.

Yes, a classic example of unintended consequences. The liberals never learn - for everything they enact, the people and businesses they target are going to react to nullify as much of the effect on them as they can.

Tiger didn't hesitate - he claimed FL residency when he first turned pro. It doesn't shield all his earnings though. He still has to pay taxes in other states for money earned in tournaments there.

Failed system? Gov. Moonbeam said California is in great shape now in his State of the State address this morning.

FWIW, it was quite interesting to watch - no teleprompter, fairly informal, a little hyper and it had numerous quotes. It sounded like he wrote it himself instead of a professional speechwriter. There was even some conservative aspects that give me a glimmer of hope he'll keep the new super-majority up there from running amok. Here's a fairly good brief account of it - http://www.mercurynews.com/california-b ... g-optimism

Like the 1990 Yacht Tax. Caused people to buy less Yachts, brought in less revenue and cost boat builders jobs:

New Luxury Tax Trimming Boat Sales
By PENNY SINGER
Published: July 21, 1991 NY Times

THE 10 percent excise tax on pleasure boats, coming on top of the recession, is helping to scuttle parts of the local boating industry, say those who make their livings building, selling and maintaining the boats.

The luxury tax, which began Jan. 1, is applied to that part of a new boat's sale price over $100,000. The National Marine Manufacturers Association, the industry trade group, estimates that from 10,000 to 15,000 boats nationally will be subject to the tax.

In Mamaroneck, Howard McMichael Jr., who is 52 years old and joined the family business, McMichael Yacht Brokers, in 1962, said his business has been hit by the tax and the recession. Sales of New Boats Down

"In 1989, we sold 30 boats costing over $100,000," Mr. McMichael said. "We sold 8 last year in that category and so far this year, we've sold 2."

The business was founded in 1935. "Traditionally, we have always sold a mix of new and used boats, with the bulk of sales, or about 60 percent of them, in new boats," he said. "Today, new boat sales account for only 10 percent of our business."

The way I see it is Phi only apologized for using his notoriety to express his views which he wasn't even sure about anyway. However if we look at all the hypocritical/Liberal, no fur wearing, tree hugging actors & actress's that use their celebrity status to sway people into supporting the liars (like our Secretary of State who had the balls to question who cares if the American people are lied too) who have residency in Texas, FL. Delaware or Nevada to avoid taxes but actually live in LA well then IMO Phi's an all right guy. Besides his PR & accountant probally straightened him out too

I believe he's a member of the PGA God squad of born again Christians who admirably don't shove their religion down any-ones throat just to be righteous & self serving. It's really kind of a big PGA secret the % is so high, which I think is really cool (having sent my 2 DD's to private Catholic school). Panye Stewart (may he RIP) was another, people didn't didn't chastise him because he was a Christian, but they might have if he'd advertised it the way Scientologists & atheists do in Hollywood. IMHO
