Happy New Year rules for life they don't teach in school

Bill Gates recently gave a speech at a High School about eleven (11) things they did not and will not learn in school. He talks about how “feel-good, politically correct” teachings created a generation of kids with no concept of reality and how this concept set them up for failure in the real world.

Rule 1 : Life is not fair - get used to it!

Rule 2 : The world doesn't care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.

Rule 3 : You will NOT make $60,000 a year right out of high school. You won't be a vice-president with a car phone until you earn both.

Rule 4 : If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss.

Rule 5 : Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your Grandparents had a different word for burger flipping: They called it opportunity.

Rule 6 : If you mess up, it's not your parents' fault, so don't whine about your mistakes, learn from them.

Rule 7 : Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you thought you were: So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parent's generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.

Rule 8 : Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life HAS NOT. In some schools, they have abolished failing grades and they'll give you as MANY TIMES as you want to get the right answer. *This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.

Rule 9 : Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you FIND YOURSELF. *Do that on your own time.

Rule 10 : Television is NOT real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.

Rule 11 : Be nice to nerds… Chances are you'll end up working for one.

If you can read this... Thank a Teacher. If you can read this in English... Thank a Soldier!
And for life and everything else you have... Thank God!!

Let's make one thing crystal clear, no member of the current US military contributes in any way whatsoever to protecting the freedoms of the American people. As a matter of fact, they are more likely to turn their weapons on you than they are to defend your Constitutional rights. Google NDAA if you think not.

The only people on this planet Earth who can affect your freedom are members of Congress, local legislators and the members of enforcement institutions who will blindly follow the rulers who sign their paychecks.
And, while your beloved troops are murdering people around the globe, yes, I said murdering, your Congress and local legislators are eliminating your freedoms, en masse, without any intervention by our so-called protectors in the armed forces.
There is no honor in volunteering to go anywhere in the world and kill anybody you are told to, without question, without historical background and without verifying the stated reasons for doing so. In this modern age of information we now know that time and time again our military have been deployed into battle, to kill and be killed, for reasons that in no way shape or form resemble the reasons for which they, or we were told at the time.
This is no secret, although many Americans refuse to take off the flag that is wrapped around their eyes and see American history as it really happened. They blindly believe what was told to them by the people who have a vested interest in maintaining myths and misconceptions.

Bring our troops home and stop policing the world. It does not make us safer or the world better.

Only in a truly free country could you get away with such a despicably ignorant and insulting post about our volunteer military. And despite what you may think, none of those volunteers are required to follow any order they believe to be unlawful - but of course you would have to have served yourself to know that.

I despise the POS that incessantly complains about how bad and unfair this country is yet doesn't have the balls to leave this country to live in one of the numerous socialist utopias they constantly espouse.

And I am still waiting for any of the numerous OWS boneheads and welfare state leeches to tell me the name of the non-corporation poor person that last hired him or her to work for a "living" wage.

Spazsdad, I second what you said. I would love to see these pos in person - someone who writes this trash and would man up and admit it in person. A night in the clink would be worth the shot.

As for the opening post, it would be interesting to think that someone who started off in the world with a trust fund large enough for most anyone else to retire - would start a business like MS and work so incredibly hard to steal so much work from real programmers. The words - after reading so much about him and hearing so much first hand stuff from programmers he had screwed back in the old days - just dont sound like things he would believe it. But I could be - and usually am wrong - and probably am again.

BW - I read your messages for the same reason people slow down when driving on the freeway here in SoCal - everybody likes to see a good train wreck. And you have once again not disappointed.

Sadly I was personally offended by your disgusting words. You see, you hide behind your keyboard and spew hate while people like me defend our country on a daily basis, 24 hours a day, without holidays ... all to protect your freedoms (regardless if you understand the strength, power and influence our military provides).

So let me share a few facts with you, while recognizing I am a very small, insignificant part of what makes our country so great.

Fact - I have voluntarily served in the US Army for 21 years, wearing a US Flag on my shoulder in 7 countries (US, Japan, Korea, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Germany).

Fact - I have never had to discharge my weapon, but have received the finest training in the world to ensure that me and every soldier around me was fully capable of defending ourselves in every situation.

Fact - I have personally fed starving children, personally delivered potable water to areas stricken by disease, personally delivered gravel to build roads to allow transportation to hospitals, personally repaired communications towers to ensure deprived citizens were able to stay informed.

Fact - I have personally flown over dirt fields and watched Blackhawk helicopter pilots kick soccer balls out their doors to excited children below.

Fact - I have personally flown into Kobe, Japan the day after a 7.3 magnitude earthquake hit and assisted the local citizens dig themselves out of the destruction.

I did all of these things as a volunteer, and when I returned home I continue to volunteer; playing catch with my daughters, pitching batting practice, catching pitching lessons, and shagging balls in the outfield.

My wife and kids have endured sacrifices on a daily basis, felt stresses that I suspect you will never appreciate, and thank their lucky stars to be living in the greatest country on god's green earth.

Widow-
My great uncle fought in WWI and is buried in Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery. My father was in Guadalcanal during WWII. One of my uncle's survived the sinking of his ship, the USS Lexington, in 1942 in the Battle of the Coral Sea.

I have family and friends that have served in Vietnam, Desert Storm, Iraq and Afghanistan. Others that are underpaid "members of enforcement institutions" who leave their families every day and go off to work wearing a sidearm and a bullet proof vest to protect those they do not know, while their family hopes they come home safely later that day. You dont know these people, nor have a clue about their character and integrity, yet you broadly label them all as mindless sheep, and even worse -murderers.

Every last one of them would step to your defense without hesitation if they saw you in trouble, even though you dont deserve it.

I never served, but at the age of 17 I saw firsthand at the "VietVille Village" refugee camp in Palawan, the Vietnamese boat people who risked their lives to flee a regime with the hope of getting to America. I came back to the US with a completely new perspective and appreciation for my country and those who serve it. I have a friend who survived the Khmer Rouge in 1970 and is now an American citizen who would like nothing more than to meet and thank the US soldiers who helped her and her family.

So while you sign off with PEACE after spewing forth bile, I thank God that there are people out there who possess the courage you lack and I ask just one thing of you:
