Positive energy for Donnie S's son

Been 60 days since Erik's injury, an uptodate on him is he is progressing little bit by little bit - he is driving now, he drives from home to his office (4 miles or so), twice a week he drives to his speech therapy, he is up to about 5 hours a day at the office.

He has had some life choices forced on him - still loves to hang with his friends - alcohol consumption doesn't work for him, interferes with the healing, also cant stay out late, rest is critical to healing, no sports, he did play softball, flag football, dodgeball - but cant for at least a year, the opening in his brain has not healed yet. He does golf, I know some people consider that a sport, but the neurologist said golf was fine.

Also he has learned to use 'his situation' to his benefit, i.e. he rarely dated before , maybe once every couple months or so, he is now dating 4 ladies , my wife and I like each, but remain confused as to who is coming over when. I asked him , 'Son, whats up with this'. He says, "Well Dad, since the TBI (traumatic brain injury) , I cant remember which one I like best, so I just keep dating them all." OK <g>

He still struggles with words when he is tired, and still has a tough time with endurance in intellectual activities of any kind, i.e. he can handle max of 4-5 hours of work (mechanical engineering type work) , and every so often a sentence of close to gibberish will come out.

But anyway, thanks for the tons of prayers and well wishes , and lets all look forward to softball - starts in a couple of weeks for us - I saw a high school game last night - first one in 7 years without one of my daughters playing in it.

Thanks for the update - so glad to hear he isn't letting some constraints stop him from living his life. We'll keep him in our thoughts.

Is the piece of sh*t who assulted him still locked up? Hopefully prison bubba has taught him that the pooper has more than one use.

Donnie - I admire your son and your family for their tenacity and positive outlook and I am thrilled to hear that he appears to be doing a bit better each day.

I'm sure D-Man will clarify ... But to the best of my knowledge they let the POS out ... The Authorities were supposed to make Donnies family aware of this and didn't ...

That's true - he was released very quickly after the bail reduction hearing. I found out last Friday while driving Erik home from a rehab session up in Houston. To be honest, I had to pull off the road. My thoughts, un Christian as they are, when watching my son struggle with things - do well with some, struggle with others , was at least that pos is still behind bars and then to find out he wasnt - and we weren't informed - that he had been home for over a month at that time. The district attorney and I have had several meetings since - I don't agree with whats happening and how what is completely a hate crime and should be prosecuted as such, is not. But that's life and Erik is alive.

You should sue him for his EBT cards and all future EBT cards. Some one should grab him and put bike u-lock though both ear loops

I asked him last night 'whats up with 4 ladies' - he said remembering and most importantly saying the correct names is most certainly therapeutic. His sense of humor, which at times is missing, can be fun. One of the 'dad-son' issues that popped up during all of this was video games. He like a lot of kids of that generation , spend too much time playing video games. I have this crazy idea that when you live 19 miles from the gulf of mexico, why not surf, swim, kayak, sail, fish, dive, beachwalk, frisbee, etc. etc at the beach. My girls most definitely inherited the old man's dna and love of the gulf. Anyway, when all this happened , as they were explaining what rehab would be made of, video games was mentioned as very helpful ?!. I said ' you gotta be kidding me - he is going to ride this pony all over me'. Sure enough, when he became fully conscious , we told him that he wasnt coming home, that he had to go to a rehab hospital for a while. But when he found out about the gaming stuff, he had a lot of fun - telling me - when he is playing Madden or whatever , 'Dad, can you keep it down over there, I'm doing therapy.' And as you can imagine, I am glad he is.
