2. 95% of warrants for murder in Los Angeles are for illegal aliens.
3. 75% of people on the most wanted list in Los Angeles are illegal aliens.
4. Over 2/3 of all births in Los Angeles County are to illegl alien Mexicans &nb sp;on Medi-Cal , whose births were paid for by taxpayers.
5. Nearly 35% of all inmates in California detention centers are Mexican nationals here illegally
6. Over 300,000 illegal aliens in Los Angeles County are living in ga rages.< /SPAN>
7. The FBI reports half of all gang members in Los Angeles are most likely illegal aliens from south of the border.
8. Nearly 60% of all occupants of HUD properties are illegal.
9. 21 radio stations in L. A. are Spanish speaking.
10. In L. A. County 5.1 million people speak English, 3.9 million speak Spanish.
(There are 10.2 million people in L. A. County. )

(All 10 of the above are from the Los Angeles Times)

Less than 2% of illegal aliens are picking our crops, but 29% are on welfare. Over 70% of the United States ' annual population growth (and over 90% of California , Florida , and New York ) results from immigration. 29% of inmates in federal prisons are illegal aliens.

We are a bunch of fools for letting this continue

This is only one State.................

If this doesn't open your eyes nothing will !

And you wonder why Nancy Pelosi wants them to become voters!

Um...if they are undocumented & illegal, how do you know the percentage that are picking our crops? Im just saying

I'm at work & will try to touch on this string theory you have when I get home. You put together a lot of unrelated topics and try to act like they are all connected, you talk about L.A., CA & HUD...I believe HUD is national, but not sure, but the illegal-immigrant demographic is much different nationally compared to L.A., for that matter the L.A. & CA demographic is also different.

I bet I can pick any major city in the US & show how the majority of the poorest individuals are on the most wanted list of that city, whether they are legal or illegal. I believe your argument would have more strength if you picked financial standing over immigration status. To me this one sounds a little bit racist. Trust me I work in L.A. & I know how bad it is in L.A. but I don't sit there & say, you know what if they just got rid of all these illegals I would feel so much safer  I think a better argument about L.A. would be if they never had such a thing as gangs maybe it wouldn't be so bad.

Skarp like always you are spot on about a lot of things, but usually through your conservative goggles, which is fine, but when you start stating 40+ million 1st generation might be comparable to the downfall to the Roman Empire, I will put my moderate - left leaning goggles on to give this topic a more balanced view. 40+million is a little more than 10% of the US population. The Romans were a conquering empire, they usually conquered empires that had populations many times over the size of the original Roman Population, so please do not compare the two.

Your point is understood about, "but because we pride ourselves on being a 'melting pot' and allowing religious freedom ... that means EVERY religion, not just yours or mine ... as long as they are within the framework of our laws ..."......
they chose to integrate into the existing American culture (which itself is obviously an ever-evolving thing)--and wouldn't have gotten far without doing so. Now we bend over backwards to make sure that integration is not necessary--and in doing so sow the seeds of our own destruction
I am reading a little into this so if I am off base nothing personal against you, but I would just like to say that if anyone thinks that the waves of immigrants: Irish, Italian, Polish, etc integrated while, current immigrants don't: Mexican, Haitian, Puerto Rican, etc. is way off base, you still see those same early immigrant communities celebrating their heritage as the more recent ones do and actually probably more, the only difference the majority of Americans now tolerate it, but they didn't back when they 1st came, which is what you have now. We celebrate St. Patrick's Day (day to get drunk off green beer), if any "True" American from that time when they first arrived would have known this they would be rolling over in their graves, saying how un-American they need to go back to their damn island and not bring this great society down...

Each wave of immigrants has brought something to the American society that we all just take for granted as Americans now after the fact, each new generation eventually accepts the 2nd or 3rd generations culture and customs that become Americanized, but it is usually their parents & grand-parents that can't believe what the new generation is allowing in this great country of THEIRS (like theirs was not as equally hated, I don't care who you are, because if you a direct descendant of the colonist, yours was hated also, I know the residing American-Indians didn't like it).

My kids don't notice race when they are at school, they don't say my Black, Mexican, White, or Chinese friend they only say my friend from school, I know it wasn't like that in my day. So get off this doomsday theory that America is being invaded & is on the brink of collapse because of all these foreigners, because they have been saying that for over 200 years now & they have all been wrong, because America is a melting pot & we usually take the best qualities and make them our own and that is why we continue to be the leading power of the free world, not because we are a White-Christian society.

I will clarify one thing though, which I believe GIMNE is trying to say also, yes we agree that you don’t let a group of individuals come in and destroy this society from within because we are just so tolerant of everyone’s beliefs and customs, but you don’t hate a group because of it either. Not all Muslims are fanatics, now if you were to target a faction of the Muslim population whose sole belief is there is only their belief and nothing else, which I think is what you are trying to say in part of your argument Skarp, I believe almost everyone is in agreement with you.

I believe I won a free drink from you in another post, so does that mean we can drink & talk politics. :o  I couldn’t resist, I just haven’t had to time to reply to that one yet.

The issue is simply whether a given group of immigrants is capable of being assimilated, and in that sense the Roman experience is comparable with our own. Many immigrant groups in this country are no longer being assimilated, and are no longer making any serious attempt to integrate. Quite the contrary, they are wielding their considerable (and growing) political muscle to protect and subsidize their isolated status. Contrary to your assertions, that is a first in American history, and is certainly a threat to our culture.

You cite examples of historical racism and prejudice, which existed to be sure. Racism and prejudice are irrational fears of the unfamiliar. My position is rationally based on manifest dangers and harms...many of which we are already incurring (see discussion of "costs" in prior post). Additionally, the immigrant groups that I am concerned about (namely Hispanics and Muslims) often come with value systems that are in many ways antithetical to our own (not the case with the historical groups you cite). These are at best 3rd world value systems (low emphasis on education, birth control, upward mobility, etc.), and at worst completely intolerant of personal freedoms. To allow such value systems to flourish and exercise political clout within our borders--especially when the practiioners thereof are reproducing more than twice as fast as we are--is sheer suicide. So unfortunately I'll have to "stay on" this doomsday theory for the time being.

My kids don't notice race at school either. And really, neither do I. I take each individual as they come. But the simple fact is that we have far too many 1st generation hispanics in this country...because we cannot afford the costs, both financial and societal, that such a large influx brings. We should allow in as many immigrants as can be successfully integrated into the larger societal fabric, and no more. And then only when WE (current Americans) benefit by doing so. If that to you is a racist evaluation, then my definition of racism differs from yours.

And by the way, I don't think any rational person has even the slightest problem with immigrants of every variety celebrating their culture. That is entirely beside the point. The issue is whether, come Monday morning, they can venture out into the larger culture and understand it, mix well with it, and buy into it. Historically that has always been the case. It no longer is.

Yes, I do owe you a drink, and I'm definitely good for it...especially if I'm going to be given an opportunity to bludgeon those "left-leaning" tendencies out of you. :)

Just as a side-note ... It has been MANY years since we had a migrant employee ( almost 20 years ) ... More recently we borrowed them from neighbors as need be ... When last we did though , they were in this country legally on work visa's from Europe ... At that time, it was VERY difficult for them to stay here any length of time or to get resident status ... And as I remember, there were only a certain amount of people, from Poland in this case, allowed to emigrate to the USA per year ...
