Just three weeks after we were wed, my new bride began insisting that I meet her grandparents. The two had been married for over sixty years and were well into their eighty’s. My wife was worried that they wouldn’t be around much longer, so being the dutiful husband that I am, I reluctantly agreed to dinner at the old folk's house.
Once we were there, I was pleasantly surprised with the great cooking of grandma’ and the special way the old man treated his lifelong love. Any time he spoke to her, it always began with a loving phrase such as “honey”, “sweetheart”, “cupcake”, etc.
I was very impressed. So , later, when he and I were alone, I told him of how I had taken note of how he always so lovingly addressed his wife and how I hoped that after I and his grand daughter had grown old together, that I too would still be so much in love that I would call her by such loving nicknames
The old man slowly turned to me and whispered..
“That’s not the reason, son………I forgot the bitch’s name seventeen years ago..”
