The Golden State (Calif) Isn't Worth It

There have been alot of comparisons and debates on the bucket between Texas and California softball. But here is one topic that has a clear winner, and it is not California.

The attached article entitled "The Golden State isn't worth it" appeared in the L.A. Times on November 1, 2009. It is a great example of how the liberal high-benefit/high-tax economic model of California doesn't work (and judging by the billions of dollars of red ink, terrible roads and public schools in California, it is a complete failure) but the low-benefit/low-tax model of Texas does work.

Well you were correct on one topic ...taxes. now the roads and schools i dont know where you get that info...although Texas is catching up they still have alot of ground to make up as far as public schools.

I had 3 friends recently move to Texas...where else can you buy a home on a couple acres for around 20k?
Unfortunately 2 of the 3 have moved back to California because they couldnt find any work and the other is retired and staying put with the lower cost of living and great fishing .

You get what you pay for. I couldn't see myself living anywhere else. Texas is nice to visit but I don't think I could get used to the seasons, here in California when the temps hit 65 degrees it's freezing.

We dont have seasons down here in the south texas area, well, we have damn hot and then not so hot - which is now. But we break out the jackets here too when we hit in the mid to low 60's.

Back in the late 80's and early 90's, I tried to figure out how to move to and live in California, my wife loves the place. If I could have figured out how to justify $210,000 for a wood frame 950 square foot house, 3br 1 ba, on a small lot, I could never get past the waiting in line for everything. I know its something you could probably just get used to, but in 93, I decided to move back to Texas after 15 year in Arizona. If I had know then what kind of daughters God was going to give me, I should have either moved to southern california anyway or else a different part of Texas, probably N/W Houston or maybe central texas (except that part of texas doesnt have padre island - and that I can not live without).

When I was in Texas last November it snowed so it was pretty damn cold for me low 30's. But come summer time triple digits I can't get used to from one extrem to the next I like the winter temps at about 68 degrees and pretty much all of the fall at crisp 75 degrees.

I like the winter a little warmer, many times we have spent the week between christmas and new years at the beach in the motor home. Kids would get in the water, I would wade fish a little but the girls would actually swim.
