Lockman vs Vecvanags
Orange Lutheran has been a giant killer year this year and today proved no exception against the state's #1 ranked team. Norco, a team that is not spectacular but doesn't beat itself, played fast and loose with the glove. In the 1st Taylor Koenig made up for her error by turning a double play after the Lancers had 2 on and 0 outs. In the 2nd an error by Reid was cashed in when Arents, Wagner and Gornick hit consecutive singles. It was only 1 because the runner was thrown out at the plate on Wagner's hit. Nobody put more than 1 runner on base until the 6th when Goodwin tied the game with a HR to left-center. Smith led off the top of the 7th with a single which brought Osias to the circle. She walked Reed but got the next 2 hitters. The old adage about not walking the leadoff hitter would come back to haunt Lockman as she walked Arents. Wagner followed with an infield hit before Koenig made consecutive plays to get the force at 3rd. The end came when Heather Hall bounced one up the middle which Reed tracked down in back of 2nd but couldn't hold onto.
In the nightcap King's Alexis Osorio hooked up with Canyon's Hailey Hilburn in an old fashioned pitchers' duel. Hilburn allowed just 1 hit, striking out 12. Osorio gave up 3 hits but struck out 17. Every Canyon starter struck out at least once.

King had a chance to perhaps blow it open in the 1st after 2 walks and an error loaded the bases with 1 out but Hilburn got the next 2 hitters to escape. A walk to Ortiz, stolen base and single by Lauren Young gave the Comanches 2nd and 3rd with 1 out in the 1st but Osorio calmly struck out the next 2 batters. In the 2nd Canyon used 2 walks and a hit batter to load the bases with 1 out. Ortiz then singled off the 3rd baseman's glove for the game's 1st run. The 2nd Canyon error and a walk put 2 on with 0 outs in the 4th but Hilburn let them get no further. King tied it in the 6th when a hit batter and the 3rd Comanche error put runners at 1st and 3rd with 2 outs and Cobb came through with a single to RF. After that, the next 10 batters made outs to set up the ITB. After King failed to get the bunt down Hilburn gave them a reprieve with a wild pitch but they couldn't take advantage and left the runner on 3rd. For Canyon, Ortiz not only got the bunt down she beat it out. One out later Young dropped a perfect squeeze bunt and the game was Canyon's
