WHAT IS THE DEAL WITH THE NEW TOURNAMENT FORMAT IN TX

Can somebody please tell me what the hell is up with spliting up the 98 & 97 or 96 & 95s.
If your 12u then play 12u if your 14u then play all the 14u's and if your not ready to get out of the kiddie pool yet then play 10u your still eligible.

This is not only dumb but embarassing for Texas softball IMOP. How do you gauge where you stand against the 97s of 95s if you don't play them....

Maybe the soccer mentality is making inroads. They play 1 year age groups. In the grand scheme probably not the worst idea ever floated, at least in the younger age groups.

Right...where in Texas are they playing this format?

A format I wouldn't mind seeing is the one used by club volleyball: teams are divided into pools of 4-5 teams. Based on your record, you're then placed in a gold, silver, or bronze bracket on Sunday. A little more work for the TD, but a format that eliminates the need for 'A' or 'B' classification and the whining about trophy hunting.

I've seen the posting for that tournament. Its at Baseball USA. IMO its an early tournamnet and the point is more or less to see what your team has and how they play together against "equal talent" then trying to keep the 98 seperated form the 97 an the 95 from the 96. I think they are just trying something different early in the year to get teams to play out there.

That is the only tournament i've seen with that format I don't think it is or will be the norm.
