16U?

by TRAVELBALLFAN » Wed Mar 11, 2009 6:36 am

Who is left at 16U in the state? Who will be competitive after the big push to 18U? Just curious to see how many quality teams are left. I seen on the VTD there are only 8 teams signed up for qualifiers.

i have been saying it for a long time...there is no such thing as 16u anymore......

3 types of teams/coaches play 16u:

1. mediocre to decent teams eligible in age to play, that know they have no chance of winning at 18u (the better to good teams play 18u, take their whoopins when needed and develop)

2. mediocre to ok 14u teams playing up for the glory of saying they placed in a 16u tourney. (all the powerhouse 14u teams are playing 18u, unless they stay down at 14u to trophy hunt)

3. good 16u eligible teams that look for trophies instead of developing their girls at a higher level.

16U had over 100 college coaches in attendance at 16U nationals in Kentucky. You could not walk without seeing a major college coach.

How many were in IL last year?????????

Please continue move your kids up to a Gold team when they are 13 years old.

I agree Yellowball. We debated about moving up but all the college coaches we talked to said they were going to be at Sioux City South Dakota this year and all they were doing at 18 Gold and 18a was babysitting girls they already had recruited. As most good 16u teams will, we will play all 16u qualifiers and in between qualifiers we will play in 18u tournaments.

They will be no trophy hunting here. Unless trophy’s come in the form of scholarships.

The only good I see in 13 year olds(8th Graders) playing up is that they will get ready for High School ball. They need to play some 16u and 18u so they will not be intimidated by the older girls. But for most first year 14u's, they should learn to play as a team with girls their own age. I do not want my 13 year old sitting with a true 16u or 18u talking in the dugout about all the stuff they do not need to be exposed to. We have picked up with older teams and girls are talking about everything and anything.

No 16u anymore...that's ridiculous...! To anyone that hasn't played in a legitimate exposure or national in awhile, that is where/what college coaches are looking at......and you can definitely continue to develop kids by playing them in their own age group, there's plenty of fundamentals that need worked on at 14u/16u. For the 1 out of 10 true stud 14u player, move her to 16u, where she will in turn get a dose of occasional 18u competition...JMO.
