Coaches touching players

by texdocbay » Mon Oct 11, 2010 7:09 am

Just a reminder to all the coaches out there trying to be helpful to the young ladies. YOu do not need to hug girls with your arm around their neck every time out to encourage and keep your plays secret. Got sick of watching the third base coach at torney putting his arm around players yesterday.

may be innocent...may be not....only he knows

What coaches fail to understand is that their own daughters at 14u would just as soon high five as hug and so what is there about them that they think my daughter would want anything to do with them. The girls are disgusted to their backs. They go along to get along.

If I even tried to hug my 14u anywhere near a field she would be pissed. Giving her a hug on the field ended at 10s.

If the girls are uncomfortable with the situation they need to talk to their team mom who could
let the coach know he's being a little to touchy feely for them. That would be a good way to approach it.

OTOH I don't know think I have seen any coaches put his arm around a girl that was not his own.

Coaches shouldn't really touch players beyond high fives & fist bumps. There just isn't a need to and it just opens the door for discussions like this. Furthermore, it's a bad habit for a base coach to make contact with baserunners anyway.

Not even. We have a wonderful relationship. But once the uni is on and we are at the fields, its about her and her team mates. Its high fives and fist bumps. She is a teenager surrounded by girls her age or older and doesnt want to be treated any different than the rest of the girls. I have seen a lot of softball, but I dont see many 14Us hugging their parents before, during or after games.
