4/14/2010 – This document will change and be added to as we get closer to nationals for the 2010 season. If you have suggestions or changes, please speak with your commissioner about how we can create a better program.
a. In the inaugural year of VTD we will have in the Dallas/Fort Worth area on July 21st through July 25th. The national tournament will consist of two types of events. VTD World Series and VTD Open Nationals
i. VTD World Series– This event will be for teams that qualified to participate in the Gold Nationals. This event will be limited to 28 teams per age division. Births to this event will be awarded in two ways only.
1. Two Birth Methods
a. Points Births. The top 14 teams in each age division will be awarded based on points. These births will be offered to each team that has the most points on June 15th. If there are births that are not accepted by the top 14 teams then the next following teams in order of most points will be offered these births. For a team to accept the birth to the tournament, payment will be due for the event to secure their birth.
b. Wild Card Qualifiers - Specific events will have a birth to nationals. These events will be posted on the website and labeled as Wild Card Qualifiers. 14 births in total will be given at these events. Once a team receives a birth from a qualifier, that team has received a birth to the age division of the qualifier and cannot play in another age division in the VTD World Series.
2. Qualification Issues
a. If a team receives a birth via a Wild Card Qualifier and is one of the top 14 pointed teams, then the birth will move to the next highest pointed team in that age division.
b. Once a team qualifies for the World Series division of play, that team will be ineligible to play in the Open Nationals division.
c. Once a team has qualified their roster will be locked. Any player on the roster during the qualified event will be locked on that team until nationals is over.
d. Up to three pickup players will be allowed to be added to a team after their roster has been locked. A VTD Pickup Player From will need to be completed and signed by a commissioner prior to sign-in at nationals.
e. If a player is on the roster of a team that qualified and accepted the birth, this player will not be allowed to be added to another team’s roster for nationals.
ii. VTD Open Nationals – This event will be an open invitation for all teams that want to participate in nationals but did not qualify. The purpose of this event is for teams to participate in the opening ceremonies, pin trading, and to experience playing in a national tournament. This event will be limited to the number of teams that can be managed by the tournament host based on the number of fields and available lighting.
b. Format of Nationals
i. Purpose – The purpose of this format is to allow teams to know game times before arriving at the event and to give teams a better placement in the bracket because of points accrued during the season.
ii. The event will be a five game guarantee consisting of two pool game and a three game guarantee bracket.
iii. Pool games will be seeded based on team points and the pool games will seed the brackets. Therefore the first games will be set prior to the beginning of the event.
c. Points – Points earned for a specific age division will not be counted when moving up in age for nationals during the same season.
Pickup Players
d. Tie Breakers – There are many reasons that this would be used including but not limited to: multiple teams with the same amount of points and weather causing an event to end without completing the scheduled games. This order of determining a winner must be used in all VTD events.
i. Head to Head Competition
ii. The team that advanced the farthest in the winner’s bracket
iii. Win-Loss record
iv. Runs allowed per game played
v. Runs scored per game played
vi. Coin toss
