Top North Texas teams to watch in '08
I agree that the 10U teams showed some real talent this weekend. I would love to see more chances for the Dallas and Houston teams to get together and play. I know playing the Glory and Sweet Gold sure upped our game and our girls were up to the challenge. Sure made for some great ball games. Two really great ITB games from Crossfire and Redhots against Dallas teams.

Sweeet Gold, TPS-97, RedHots and Texas Elite showed they have the talent and performed. Glory and Crossfire have talent as well.

Who Did the Texas Peppers lose to in the Ronald McDonald Tourney "07 if they got 2nd place and how did the Batbusters, American Freedom, Glory 94, Texas Elite 94 fair at the Bomber Shootout, did any of these teams win it and if not who beat them ?

94 Tx Glory took 3rd and 94 Tx Elite 4th. Batbusters (Montoya) and American Freedom both went home early Sunday. Batbusters lost to S T Elite and American Freedom.

WHO BEAT AMERICAM FREEDOM ? WAS IT GLORY, AND WHO IS THIS TEAM THAT BEAT BATBUSTERS( MONTOYA ) ARE'NT THE BB SUPPOSED TO BE REAL GOOD, WHO IS THE BETTER TEAM AMERICAN FREEDOM OR BATBUSTERS ?

S.T. Elite beat the Batbusters and American Freedom. They are also the same team that beat Texas Peppers at the Ronald McDonald Tournament this fall. Weather they lost some players or not I don't know.
As far as who is the best team between AF and BB, I will leave that for someone else to decide AF was that day. I am sure you could put all the teams from the Bomber Shootout together in a diffrent tournament regardless of location, and the results would vary from week to week.
You can do what ever you want, but I wouldn't read to much into one tournament, it early.

WOW!! Some of you sure do alot of work to make replies. I have been around the 93 age group for many years -- as they have grown up from 8u. It is amazing how much opinions differ. Everyone needs to remember that it only matters at the end of the year. How you prepare and how you get there does not matter. Trophies are nice for those who never get them or for 10 and under. It is about the learning and improving and winning at the end of the year.
Lori sure does alot of research and obviously spends alot of time in the softball world.
My opinions about the 14u is this.
Their is a 93 glory team out there somewhere that should be really good. Rumor is that they will only play 18u and qualify for 16u.
The Fusion team (old Hot Shots, Elite) has improved his team every year. He is a great recruiter. Its time for them to start winning the big ones -- at the end of the year. I think they are ready to do it. They may be the team to beat in this age goup.
American Freedom has really never done anything. How do some of you think they are in the top 3 in DFW? They have a 1/3 of their team from San Antonio? Rumor has it they got their bid to ASA nationals 2 years ago when 93 RAGE gave theirs up, so the PR could be just that. They got 8th in the Bomber -- but I heard they whiped Montoya -- good for them. They have a nice team and is another team that can get hot and beat you but they really have not done much at the end of the year when they play the big time teams game after game. His team seems to have different players everyone year. So we will have to see this year.
Rapid Fire 14u - the old 93 RAGE team is a mistery. If you look at their results at the end of the year over the years they have done well in the national tourneys. As Lori said they had a few average wins last year but they did well in USFA nationals. They seem to be a team that is consistant and not flashy. Who knows what we will see from them. Ups and downs?
Travelers (splash) is a team you never want to face. They always come to play. They have had good success in years past. Never count them out as some of you have. They are also consistant and not flashy like but can win the close ones and can put 5 -6 runs on you real quick if you are not playing good defense. A strong team.
The Anderson team is good when we see them. They play in the east and are a surprise when you see them in local or in qualifiers. They are another team that may be a team to beat.
Montoya is a great team. As someone said on this bucket -- they need to chill a little. The parents are really hard on the girls and are getting a bad rep for being poor sports. I hate to see it since they are truly a amazing team for there age. They perform week in and week out at a high level. They are one of those team that get it done. The dedication of the players is great. If other teams had that from their players they would be much better. The SS is a geat player and a big part of their success -- I hope she does not get burned out.
BB (Mclasky) has his moments and is a team that seems to make good players out what other thought were average players. More power to him. He knows the game and knows how to work the system, umps and of course the clock. They are a one of those teams that can get hot and beat anyone. They have never really done anything significant at the end of the year. But you never know.

Thank you to everyone who has suggested that the American Freedom should be considered one of the top 14u teams in Texas. I am so proud of my girls and parents who have worked so hard over the last two years. We have tried every weekend to build a legacy of class and success, both on and off the field, that has become synonymous with our sponsor Dallas Baseball Academy of Texas (D-BAT).
For some reason, however, there remain persistent, inaccurate "rumors" that seem to linger about our ball club and our roster. Don't ask me why, bu they are hurtful to our families and girls who repeatedly have to answer questions from friends and former teammates. This is perhaps as good a place as any to put them to rest. I apologize in advance for the length of this post, and concede it's probably overkill and unnecessary, but we've let this go long enough.
First, our roster has been as stable as any top, "A" level club in the age group, especially for a club that was started from scratch as a second-year 12u in January 2006. We played almost our entire first season with 9 regular players. Tess, Ashlee, Cosette, and Carlie remain on the team today. After our first ASA National Championship Touranment, we added Amanda, Sam, and Kecli, who remain today. We were fortunate for Holly to pick up with us throughout the Fall of 2006 and Spring of 2007. She joined us full time in May 2007 just before HOF. Linda played with us at the 2007 Colorado Fireworks and joined us full time in September 2008. Stephanie, Natalia, and Vivian joined us full time in September 2008.
In otherwords, 4 of 12 have been with us since day one; 7 of 12 since September 2006; 8 of 12 will return for ASA championship play, and 9 of 12 will return with us to Colorado Fireworks this summer. If that is a team with a different roster every year for a team in only it's third season, so be it. More over, the Freedom family has tried hard to keep close ties to most of the girls and families who have left along the way and several continue to pick up with us at times. Former Freedom players have left to join the Texas Glory (Naudin), Texas Rapid Fire, Fusion (Poole), and Albuquerque Sol, among other elite 14u and 16u teams.
Also, every one of our "new" girls have a long-time connection to me personally. Stephanie and her dad were members of the very first team that I ever coached against in select softball game way back in 2004. We have remained friends ever since. We also had the privilege of playing against each other again in the 2006 ASA National Qualifier. I consider myself lucky to have Stephanie and Steve join the Freedom family as a player and coach almost four years after we first met on a softball field. Some people already know that Linda, Vivian, and Natalia were members of the team where I used to be an assistant coach back in San Antonio. I hope that I, the Freedom, and the DFW softball community can live up the temendous faith and commitment by these young women and their families to drive 5 hours because they believe DFW is where they can achieve their future goals of playing major, college softball.
As far not accomplishing "anything," our old and new girls and families resent this repeated assertion most. In our first season, the Freedom girls took 2nd in the 2006 12u ASA National Qualifier, losing a brutal 6-5 championship game to the Katy Cruisers after winning five games back-to-back on Sunday to get to the 'ship. Because of injuries, we played most of the game with only 8 players in our lineup, taking four automatic outs. We earned our berth to the 2006 12u "A" National Championships by finishing 5th at the ASA State Tournament, including two ITB games and a 3-2 loss to the Texas Trouble in the 4th place game. The berth was passed down to us when the Flower Mound Rage (who we did not play) choose not to advance to nationals. At the 2006 12u "A" ASA National Championships, we lost a heartbreaking 3-2 ball game to the Texas Glory (now the Texas Glory (Naudin)) in the 7th inning after leading the entire game. We earned our berth to the 2007 14u "A" National Championships by finishing 5th at the ASA State Tournament, losing only to the first- and second-place Austin Stars '92 and Ft. Bend Fire. The natonal's berth was passed down to us when the Austin Stars '92 chose not to advance. Because we received berths at the ASA State Tournament both years, we were not required to play in the ASA Regional Touraments to try to earn our berth.
Regardless, of the current DFW '93 teams still playing in the 14u "A" division, only the Texas Traveler's (Splash) and American Freedom have played in back-to-back ASA National Championship Tournaments. No other team can claim that distinction (the Texas Glory (Naudin) and Texas Glory (Whitby) moved up to 16u; and the Texas Elite '93 merged some of their players into the Fusion (Sidewell)). This fall with our current roster, we finished 46-11 overall playing almost entirely 16u and 18u tournaments. We were 7-4 in two college showcase touranments as a second-year 14u and had more than a dozen college coaches come to watch our players specifically play ball. We took two 1st-place, one 2nd-place, and 3rd-third place tournament finishes. If that constitutes not accomplishing "anything," then I suppose our goals are set to low.
We haven't accomplished anything in the 2008 season, but we have set high expectations for ourselves. We will work hard to live up to the hype. But, please stop the rumor mill about our supposed, revolving-door roster and our girl's lack of accomplishments. It's not true and not fair to the 12 wonderful girls and families that I'm proud to coach every weekend.

Okay American Freedom. There are some facts in that history of the Freedom that shows that you guys have dome some good things. The intent in the comments was not to hurt the parent or players. I believe that in all of my email I said each team can win in any given game. There is a lot of good teams in NTX.
When it gets to the end of the year, we Texas teams just need to perform on the national stage.
