We wish everyone down here would as well follow Oklahoma's lead. Unfortunately, unless the TD cuts them out, 98's could play until December 31st here and frequently did. Our organization doesn't allow players to "play down", but many will just to get a few trophies in the cofer.
I know the OK force team didn't have any 98's when they were at Southlake.
THe Bombers have never had a 98 on their team.
The Blaze did in the fall but I think it was either pick up players or don't play as they only had 9 players WITH their 98's.
The Glory pitched a 98 all fall and rode her pretty much every game.
Kruzers as far as I know only had 99's and didn't use 98's last year, unless maybe they did for the 12U tournaments they played.
TPS team had a 98 pitcher most of last year. They have picked up players intermittently to take to tournaments. So has Kingwood as well as the Cobra team. This is notoriously common in Houston.
In fact we were playing in the older tournament in Houston a few weeks ago and I watched 10U girls changing uniforms in the stands and getting on different teams once their team lost in the single elimination. One girl played on 3 different teams that I saw. The tournament directors comment was that rosters weren't "important" this early in the year and the girls just needed to play. Unfortunately, that tournament was a POINTS tournament for USFA and really should have been more closely monitored.
Most of the TD's really try to monitor this but there is no rule against what we refer to as "playing down" in the fall. There are entire teams of 98's that played 10U until December 15th just to try to beat up on the 99's and win trophies. The funny thing was, they never really won much and are getting CLOBBERED right now in 12U. We just do our thing and know it is the best for the girls.
I agree with whoever posted however....
All the teams going to Mizuno - show up with YOUR team. Not someone else's girls. Otherwise, does the win really mean that much? Are you just after the almighty "trophy" and glory of winning? And if you think the people on this board won't know you picked someone up and advertise it, think again. That just diminishes the game. Please think of that before you "load" your team with others. This tournament is going to be a great one. Let the girls win it or lose it in the right fashion --- on the field. What are you teaching them by picking someone up just to try to win. Not much in my estimation. But I guess each to their own.......
