1998 ~10U~ Houston Metro top 10 {R.I.P 08-04-2009}

by TEXASBANDIT24 » Tue Jun 30, 2009 4:39 am

I just want to say how wrong it is for USFA to have "A" and "B" divisions and allow trophy hunting teams to enter whichever one they feel like. The USFA higher ups were well informed of the three "98" teams that finished 1st thru 3rd but still allowed them to play "B". I give a lot of credit to the 99 Cobras for playing up, but they would have had plenty of competition in the B bracket with all the 98 teams that were there. I heard that a couple of the 98 teams told the TD "why would we want to enter the A bracket when we know the best we can do is get third"? That is a bunch of crap and even more reason they should have made them play A.

Yes, I am pissed because this is the third tournament in a row that we would have won first place if it were not for a 98 team or two being in the wrong bracket. We took 98 Alvin Rage to double ITB in Pearland and forfeited the championship game against the 98 Texas Rage, of Segion, in New Braunfels because they were the only 98 team in the tournament and we beat everybody else. I wasn't going to give them the satisfaction of playing another game. That tournament was the same weekend that ASA State was being played, but I guess they were too scared to go there. The 98 Rage from Seguin have a bunch of really good quaility girls on that team, but I can't say the same about the coaches. "Oh, if I lose my 55 mile an hour throwing pitcher, then we would be up a creek without a paddle." That really shows a lot of confidence for the rest of the girls. You got the trophy dude, congrats to you. I hope you really enjoy it. I could not even begin to think that I could sleep at night if we chose to play B and we were all 98's. Same goes for Flower Mound and Spring Sting too. Bunch of chickens!!! Funny how all three of you ended up in the top three. See who was right below you?? The 99 Phantomz, that's right. We lost two games and it was to both Rage teams. The good news is that we beat Spring Sting in ITB in Deer Park about a month and half ago. Too bad we didn't get a chance to face them.

I can only hope that the USFA gods, if there are any, elect to put all three of you in the A bracket at Nationals so the deserving B bracket team gets their due. Let's see if I get ripped for this or if most people agree.

Congrats to TPS and Sting for making it to the championship and to TPS for winning it. I don't think anybody was surprised about that. I am sure you will both do really well in Panama City, but you better watch out for the three teams that were too chicken to man up and play the A bracket at state. They may be forced to play A at Nationals and they could possibly beat you.. Haha, no way!!! They are just B teams!! haha They will probably elect not to go than to not be guranteed no better than 3rd, 4th or 5th!!!!!!

Peace out,

Phantomz coach- I agree with you 100%, but just remember that next year when you are the second year team you better step up and play "A" ball, even though the best you would probably get will be 3rd behind TPS 99 and the Humble Cobras 99.

As for painting a target on TPS 98's back, well I think they have played for several months with a very large target on their back and have done quite well......... I am sure the So Cal teams will be looking for them in nationals..........and I am also sure TPS will hold their own and possibly bring the National 1st place trophy back home to Houston, TEXAS.

Good luck to all ya'll who are headed to FL and/or TN!!!! 8-) 8-)

Looks like you are keeping up with the Texas 10u thread. Trying to pick up some pointers on softball, good idea. Don't worry TPS will teach you all you need to know about softball in a few weeks. Don't be late and bring a video camera so you have a training tool when you get back home.

This thread is about softball??? Seems like a lot of steer droppings being slung around... (That's what you call it in Texas, right?) :o  :?

Well ,well, welcome to Travel ball softball newbies!.
It was that way over 6 yrs ago when my own DD was in 10-U and we were on here talking trash and having fun. Soon you will know why all the hype is about ASA and why everyone seems to hold USFA in a not so favorable light. It is all about the $ to USFA and always has been. Put up your $ and you can play whatever division you want, be it "A" or "B". go enjoy your vaction as I did and I am sure you will as well! Build your team and keep playing and when the time is right step on up and give your team a shot at the best. ASA is truley where the best compotition is. but at 10-U keep having fun and talking trash. we all did it as well.

Good luck

Thanks for agreeing with me but I have to take exception to the last part of that sentence. TPS's "98" pitcher will be gone and without her, they are just like a lot of other 99 teams. I am not knocking TPS as they are an excellent organization that will always get some of the best kids in and "not so around" the Houston area. I do not know too much about the Cobra's, but I do know that their coach will have them in good shape and very competitive.

We finished State with two 99 pitcher's and did not see TPS once the whole weekend. Of course we got knocked to the loser's bracket right off the bat by a "98" team that won the tournament. We will have some people calling us to play and I am almost positive that we will win a tournament or two next year.

I would never, ever play in a "B" competition if it is offered when I have a second year team. If we get beat, then we get beat. But I want to get beat by the best. In every game there has to be a winner and a loser and if we lose, we will be good sports about it.

For you to say that the best we might get is third, I think you are way off there. I do not know who you are, but that is a strong statement and those two teams will be looking up at us. I can only hope your daughter plays on one of them so every time we beat you, you will remember that comment. If you play on TPS, you already know the feeling from the game in New Braunfels. Big strong 98 pitcher goes down to the lowly 99 Phantomz.......

I wish the Cobra's would of played "B" because maybe we would have been lucky enough to play them. The Phantomz were the only 99 left standing when the sun was really hot on Sunday and playing in our 5th and 6th game of the day.

On a side note. I did get invited to play some team out of Oklahoma that his 99 daughter was picking up for Flower Mound Rage. He said they would put an a** kicking on us and I told him to look me up around this time next year and we will see. Funny how that Flower Mound team had to go to Oklahoma and pick up a 99 when most of their girls looked old enough to be driving, and still could not do better than third in the "B" division. I hope that guy reads HB and responds because I would like to keep in contact and take him up on his offer. His Oklahoma team probably consists of girls within three states, but they are the best in Oklahoma as he stated.

GOOD JOB PHANTOMZ!!!!

You can bet that we will be playing ASA in 2010 because as I stated in a previous post "I want to play the best" and the best is found in ASA. The only thing I like about USFA is that I can bat all of my roster. Next year will be different though. I have been through this once with my 22 year old daughter and USFA was not even heard of. After this past weekend, they have seen the last of me and The Phantomz!!
