HELLLOOOOO MORONS! Think about it for a 3 seconds before you type.

here are some potentials problems

Lets say you have 12 teams. They would play 2 pool games each and be seeded in a bracket based on the outcome. So who would they play in pool? 4 groups of 3?

If the TD even was capable of ranking the teams, would it be fair to put the best 3 teams together in pool games then have 1 of them end up seeded as #10 or #12?

Would it be fair to to put the worst 3 teams against each other in pool then have 1 of them come out undefeated and be considered a #3 or #4 seed

Would it be fair for the best teams to play the worst teams in pool? Would either team even want to play that format? Think about it, Red Hots vs some League Team?

So now instead of teams having 2 potentially quality pool games where they have a chance to work the #3 pitcher to keep her happy or work on some new play or something, they are now feeling like the pool games are rigged one way or the other which ends up with a rigged bracket. ALL teams will all have to be prepared to play as soon as the last pool game is over OR the TD will have to pencil in an hour off on all fields to allow time for 8 teams to prepare to play while the other 20 teams can go home and come back 3 or 4 hours later when they play.

Bracket on a blind draw has its ups and downs. All you can hope for is a good draw or suck it up if you get a bad draw. It would be easier to rig a tournament by seeding with pool games.
What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals.

You obviously have not been around baseball Hammer. The boys play tournaments that start Wednesday or Thursday and conclude after a LONG day on Sunday having to play 2 games in one day, and very rarely 3 games on Sunday!!! I also see them span 2 weekends. Oh, did I fail to tell you that was for 8 teams!!!! Its a different game with a different mindset Hammer.

The bomber shootout was a large pool seeded tournament last season and I think it worked out well, at least at 10U. Any horror stories with that one?

No, all girls, but my friends have sons so we watch allot of tournament baseball. Should be easier with shorter game time in softball. Most tournaments start on Fridays now anyway. It sure seems to me it would make sure your so called top teams didn't play in round one or all on one side of a bracket. Hey, Zig if you think this is such a dumb idea what are your thoughts to make softball tournaments better ? ;)

Then you can have a 1 play a 4 and a 2 play a 3 or 3 plays 4 with winner facing 1 or 2 depending on the number of teams in the bracket. The lower seeds play the earlier games and the 1 seeds get to sleep in a bit. We will run 30+ teams through a 3 pool game single elim tournament in a weekend playing 1:20 pool games, usually the championship game starts no later than 6:00.
Yes sometimes you get two top teams in the same pool but then the worst one of them will finish is second in pool, no big deal.

This is exactly how the bomber shootout was done and it worked out well over 2.5 days. They used a big complex and a high school field but it is a very large tourney. I think this would interest many teams...... but there is the fact that Cali is doing it

Interesting. So how do they decide who is in what pool? How does the tournament transition from pool to bracket? (I vision teams waiting around to find out when their bracket games is) Is it possibly pool Friday and Saturday with Bracket on Sunday? Would it still be possible for someone to soften the bracket for their favorite team or make it harder on their least favorite team?

ASA Nationals is pool play used for bracket seeding. They do four team pools.
