Dont assume too much SoftballG, I only mention those teams because they are considered to be the Top Dogs this year at Nationals. There are other good to great teams in D/FW besides the Diamonds and Longhorns. 96 Fusion is an outstanding team...just ask the Diamonds. They made the trip to Nationals as well. In fact, I dont believe they get near enough credit for being a good team. I am honestly not trying to imply those Houston teams that are always mentioned, Peppers, Thunder, Aces, Fury etc., are not good teams. I simply am stating that I dont think they really know how good or bad they are because they have never ventured out of their comfort level and played some of the truly great teams.

Here is the simple truth. When you talk about ASA A Nationals there really is not a lot of difference between the teams that finish 1-10. They are all great teams. Their place of finish is usually dependent on who gets a good draw and who happens to be playing the best for those 4 or 5 days of the year. I mean based on REALLY's stats, am I supposed to believe that Deer Park TPS is or was a better team than the 95 Kruzers because they finished 2 spots higher at Nationals last summer? I really dont think most knowledgeable softball fans would think Deer Park was better than the Kruzers.

Yes we know the Batbusters 96 / Fusion 96 is a great team also, they had a decent run at nationals 2 years ago as well and we know the CA is always going to have good teams because of their talent, commitment and coaching (hardly any daddy ball from the top orgs) which I wish Texas will get away from eventually...

Listen there are good teams from all over Texas which makes the ASA HOF in San Antonio a great tournament to see all the quality teams in one place when it matters most, very close to nationals

First, I commend you for all of your hard work. Great Job! Houston is the obvious winner.

A few comments though...you are right about this being a 12U thread. As such, we are talking about 96 and 97 teams only. So while I congratulate you on all of your hard work, it really is not pertinent to this discussion regarding the current 12U teams.



Here are some statements in my original post which have yet to be answered or proven inaccurate:

How many of you have seen the Oklahoma Nemesis play in the last 6 months? Here is a bonus question regarding that team...Can you tell me all of the team names this team has held over the last 5 years?

How many of you have seen the 96 Lady Longhorns play over this same time period?

Never which is just about as many times as you have seen Peppers, Fury, Bandits, Thunder or any other teams here in the South

How many of you have played some of the top teams from CA or across the US?

Considering a team changes year to year Names mean nothing until August go back and revisit my list and see how amy repeat teams there are from year to year in the top "5"

Is this peppers team originally a Showdown Orange team coached by the same guy?

The Coach is the same one who combined Showdown/96Peppers.

How many A tournaments have the current top Houston teams played up in over the last 5 years? What was your record?

All of our tournaments here are "A" Open or split Division when Allstars start. The only time they mix is late summer when a few allstar teams try to keep going. If you understand ASA rules you can not have a "B" team and be considered a tournament team unless you petition down through your J.O. True B teams are allstar teams a group selected from a league while "C" is a true league team which was formed by a draft

Do you have the respect of the top teams from CA, Comets, Nemesis, etc?

About as much as your teams do.

Finally, a new question. How many of the current top teams from Houston have played in an ASA A Nationals?

Like I said new year new team Old name or not...

CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT ELIGIBILITY RULES
I. PURPOSE: The purpose of the Junior Olympic ‘B’ program is to provide a recreational program and
championship tournaments for recreational teams registered with ASA.
II. CATEGORIES OF ELIGIBILITY: All teams must meet one of the following two (2) criteria to be
eligible to participate in the ‘B’ Championship Tournament Program:
A. Recreation League Teams: These 10U – 18U teams must represent a recreational league.
A Recreational League is defined by the following criteria:
¨ A recreational league is an organized league associated with a recognized neighborhood or
community
¨ Where participation is open to any interested youth
¨ Where tryouts or demonstration of skills is not required for participation
¨ Where some type of draft, draw or other acceptable method is utilized to ensure distribution
of talent among the league teams
¨ AND the team(s) must be approved by the league's Board of Directors.
NOTE: Leagues who divide their age groups into split divisions based on skill level , must
have no less than six (6) teams in the more advanced division. Split divisions must not be
used in age groups below 10-Under. All players in the split division leagues must be
eligible for All-Star tryouts and selection.

How did predictions for a particular tournament go to .... do you know how many times a team has change names? And to... Who coached a certain team some years back? And to a list of winners at nationals for all the past years? I stay confused but I am really now!!

First, let me state for the record that I am a proud parent on the 96 Diamonds. I have had the fortune to be associated with this team and its head coach, Troy Travers, for the last seven years. I can assure you that this "publicity" his team is receiving on this board is not welcomed. While I cannot be 100% sure, I doubt very seriously that Coasterhead7, or anybody else trying to draw recognition, good or bad, to our team is affiliated with our team. That is not who we are! Anybody that knows our team knows that class, sportsmanship and respect mean just as much to us as all of our wins.

Yes, we have a solid team full of girls that live and breathe softball. Yes, we have a coaching staff, that is in it for the girls first and foremost. If you ask any of our coaches they will tell you we are successful because of the talent and the determination to be the best in all of our girls. However, what they won't admit to is that they get the most out of our girls because they (the girls) truly love them and want to earn their respect and admiration. I honestly don't believe another coach or group of coaches in the entire country could have done any better with our girls.

We are a team that prides itself on living the ideals many teams only use as a crutch for motivational purposes. Class and sportsmanship are not character traits with our girls, but a habit that is required to be on our team. Our team is blessed with the fact that we have very little turmoil or turnover on our team. In fact, almost 2/3 of our girls have played together on this same team for at least 4 years. We respect every team we compete against and know that 95% percent of the time when we step onto that diamond, our girls, 6th and 7th graders, have a bulls-eye on their back and can expect to get their opponent's very best effort that game. The truth is our daughters are under a tremendous amount of pressure to perform. If they win, it is because they are supposed to; if they lose, then that team can brag about it for a while. This is not meant to be construed as bragging or complaining about the situation, it is what it is and merely to remind everyone that we are talking about 12 and 13 year old girls.

We have the fortune of playing some of the best teams on a regular basis. Teams like the 96 Fusion, 96 Lady Longhorns, Oklahoma Nemesis, 96 Glory and many other top quality teams only make us better, win or lose. In addition, we have a team philosophy of playing against the best older teams as well. Competition breeds character, character breeds strength, strength breeds confidence and there is no limit to what confidence breeds.

This post is not meant to thump our chests. It is to shed some light on our team and our beliefs from someone actually on our team, and not some "troll" hiding behind a name trying to stir the pot. We wish all teams in this great state the very best of luck this year. We hope to make it down to Houston sometime this Spring to play against some of the many good teams in that area. We hope that some of you from the South or Central Tx can make it up for a tournament on the weekend of 5/1-5/3. So far, there are a number of "top" teams signed up and it should be a good benchmark for everyone before the HOF Qualifier in San Antonio. Go to VTD and look up the King of Swing Shootout.
