Congrats to High Voltage, they played some great ball this weekend! There were some close ones though. They sent the Jets to the losers bracket Sat. night beating them 1-0 scoring the only run in the bottom of the last inning. They beat TPS 95 in ITB by 1 or 2, can't remember which. The Championship game was 5-3 I think but I am sure I will be corrected if I'm wrong. HV is a very hard hitting team that rarely makes mistakes and they WILL capitalize on yours.

The Jets got their money's worth this weekend, 8 bracket games total, including the 6 back to back on Sunday to make it to the 'ship only to find High Voltage waiting for them. I will say this about this class of '95's, they are going to be a tough group to deal with in the Spring.

It was cold for the night games, really cold, the umpires were good, and the fields were pretty well maintained. Overall a great end to this Fall season.

So which team won 3rd? FPC or TPS?
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The first weekend of the Katy Christmas Classic is complete and we have some winners!

14u Division
1st Place - High Voltage
2nd Place - Texas Jets
3rd Place - Sugarland FPC

16u Division
1st Place - MC Magic
2nd Place - Cinco Co-op
3rd Place - TPS

Thanks to all the teams that came out for the 13th Annual Katy Christmas Classic. We got to see some great softball games and hope to see you all again next year!

Wow, that's a shame that they would officially post incorrect results but I am sure they will fix it. FPC took 3rd in the 16u division, they had a great weekend. TPS took 3rd in the 14u. The teams just got flipped.

Why are people so hateful? My goodness....with world hunger, melting of the ice caps, the wars going on all over the world...the homeless people our team took food and clothes to last weekend..and such going on...why would the fact that our team played 14U be so AWFUL??

WE WEREN'T TROHPY HUNTING!!! Our team had several new girls playing with us...the team had only played in 3 tournaments since August and they are half 94's and half 93's (some very late 93's)....They are the same age as many of the girls in the tournament!

We played in 18U tournments in the fall to get good competition but mostly because in the area we live the 14s all play up because the 14U age group is not very competitive. Because our girls placed 2nd at the Katy Tournament last year as first year 14Us...why wouldn't they want to come back as 2nd year 14Us and do better? They were simply playing in their age group! If everyone would play in their age group...the tournaments would be more competitive! ASA didn't set the age breaks from AUG to AUG.....they are set for DEC to DEC!

The guy that posted the nasty note about our team bragging about beating up on 7th graders is obviously making excuses for his team's early dismissal as there were tons of "7th graders" left playing when our team lost. Hmmmmm...let's see...we ended our game against them at 12:20...he talked to his team....drove home...posted the nasty note at 1:39....YEP we know who you are! No....our girls are not going to school bragging about beating up on your 7th graders...they are going home to figure out how to better their game!

Our girls played 2 young - very good teams. And lost to two young very good teams. Kudos to them. They just made our girls want to go home and work harder.

There were a lot of very well coached - very athletic teams there this weekend. There were also some not so well coached teams with players and fans that left a lot to be desired. Our coaches, players and fans would never lower our standards to treat another team the way we were treated by some.

We brought our girls to the Katy Classic for the 4th time and were looking for a place to tryout our new players and let the girls have a competitive and fun close to their season. We weren't trying to get everyone's feathers ruffled!

Thank you to the Mr. Melby, Mr. Buchanan, the Katy Cruisers and the umpires. They were all great as were most of the teams our girls played. We will be back as 1st year 16Us next year and YES we will probably be back the year after that as 2nd year 16Us.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Well, actually you (Corps) played 3 '95 teams and 1 '94 in bracket play.

You beat Hit Away 94
You lost to TPS 95
You beat Sting 95
You lost to Phantomz (95 team)

Maybe you're right, if everyone would play in the age division that ASA set instead of preparing for the Spring, you might have gotten further (not your words I know but someone would have said it eventually). I'm not trying to be hateful, I'm just saying that everyone knows that in the Fall teams play in the age division that they will be playing in the Spring. If you have even 1 '93 birthday you should be doing this, your team has 3 (I think that was on a post earlier?) and IF that player is a pitcher then that makes a HUGE difference in the teams that you would be playing against. IMHO you can't get a good look at your teams new players if they play against younger teams, what does that really show you? ASA might say the age determination date is Dec 31st but everyone knows the next season really starts in August, right after Nationals are over.

Was out in Katy late sat and saw some good games and some bad ones but thats what fall is for. Congrats to the HV,Jets & TPS you all played great and had to endure some cold weather
this weekend and all I can say it will be a great spring for 14u softball.

Just wanted to give my 2cents about the 93 team, its my opinion that if you play select softball you always want to play at your highest level of comp. Already this fall season Ive
seen some 2nd year 14u teams that have no buisiness playing up but continue to do so.
I think you get more out of putting your girls in the pressures of playing great comp, how they
react to tough games ect. Just wondering what you learned about your new girls and your team
for the up coming spring.

On a lighter note had to see how the Houston Power faired against the Blaze teams and VTD shows they won the tournament.

Why would any kid need the play under "pressure" in a Christmas tournament on the last weekend of the season in 30-degree weather with a first-year of high school or varsity play looking?

You people are complaining about a team that got 5th. If they run-ruled everyone, maybe you would have something, but you are ridiculous. What they learned is that they aren't going to be competitve in ASA "A" at 16u outside Central Texas with their current roster. The Corp don't make it to Sunday in the 16u division.

And what everyone "knows" is that if your DD is really any good and you are a responsible parent really preparing your kids for their softball future, those '95s ought to be playing up in 16u and the '94s ought to be playing up in 18 Gold or you have no chance of getting recruited. But, of course, some parents know that little Suzie isn't going to get recruited and just want to play softball, have fun, make friends, and play for her high school varsity someday.

It cracks me up every year to hear this stuff from teams that have never been close to an ASA National Tournament about "preparing your kids" . . .. The 14us in California can beat most of the 18us in Texas. Maybe the problem is that in Texas egotistical parents are so concerned about playing their exceedingly average '93, '94, and '95 kids "up" to keep up with little Janie down the street that they forget to play in their own age group, develop talent, and keep teams together long enough to become good.

There are a hundred teams like the Corp that are lost in the ASA system. When it comes to playing on a state-wide or national stage, they are too good (and a few of them too old) to play 14u, not good enough to play 16u "A", and will get chastized or made fun of for playing 16u "B" or USFA, etc. What usually happens to a team like this is that the one or two best players are eventually shamed into playing for older teams where they sit the bench or become role players, the younger players are left playing iin an older age group where they don't belong, and everyone is less for it.

I say again to the Corp and teams like them; you keep doing what your doing, forget about the parents on this board who "think" they know what they are doing, win some games, recruit some talen, keep your kids together, and laugh all the way back to an ASA National Championship in what ever age you decide to play in in two years.

I think you just proved you own point on the reason we are always second best to Cali.
Instead of taking steps forward you are taking a step back, look we just go by what we
see and your fall season consist of 18u this and that then you are in a 14u tournament.

First, I'm not part of the Corp team and wouldn't know them if I met them at the ball park. I do know that in Central Texas, you can check any VTD listing and see that most of the 18u tournaments are populated mostly with 14u and 16u teams. You can count on one hand, if that, the 14u-eligible teams in the San Antonio-Central Texas areas that could play in the 14u Katy Christmas Classic and not get run-ruled in every game. It is my experience that you are starting to see the same thing in a lot of the weaker Dallas/Ft. Worth and even Houston-area 18u tournaments.

There a million reason why California whips Texas every year at Nationals that have nothing to do with playing up or down (population density being the biggest reason). But, in Texas, any 14u kid who can throw a ball across an infield thinks she should be playing 18 Gold. I see it every weekend at ever college showcase I go to. In California, even the very good kid doesn't try to play 18u or 16u, they play "down" where they belong. The true stars do, but the average top 14u plays 14u as long as she can to develop. How many of those top '95 at the Katy Christmas Classic will be playing 16u this summer or next because of peer pressure.

Ok...be nice to me I'm new to all this so bare with me. I guess this is what I have to look forward to when my daughter gets to be 12U and on up.

Why doesn't everyone just play in there own age bracket?

If you say that your daughter should play up in the fall because it will only make them better and if everyone moves up in the fall...then aren't you still playing the same girls they played at the age before you moved up? How is that making you a better player because you moved up to play the same girls that moved up also....I thought some teams move up to hopefully play those teams that don't move up so that they can get better when they play older girls?

Why does it really both some of you?????
