Ice had some knew faces and looked solid. Should somebody be checking for altered birth certificates?

Thanks Zig for this, it gave me a real good laugh. I hear it all the time. I'm the dad of #10 on the Ice, girl who caught this weekend. If anyone needs to see the birth cert come on by we keep it handy. As you might guess this isn't the first time we have heard "Check her birth certificate". She doesn't make 13 till the end of October.

This is our first year out in select and we are having fun. It is great to see so many kids and parents excited about softball. The team has been working very hard and we are looking forward to a good year.

Now on to this part...

Assuming they don't try to pull that again this Ice team is shaping up to be a decent looking team, and as always with some quesionable tactics.

I heard there was a fuss about a girl taking an out to start the next inning. (I wasn't at the ballpark, my neice was getting Christened) Was this the tactic you refered to? I'm new to the select scene so am still getting the lay of the land. But I've seen stuff like that all year from almost all teams were caoches are forced, by the format, to do clock management. Right before that happened the Rip coach called time and tried to delay the game to end the time limit. They we're looking to walk the girl in question and let time run out before getting an out and ending the inning. Doesn't sound any different to a newbie like me than taking the out and starting the inning.

Why question the eligibility of a player after the completion of the tourney? If there are any questions regarding whether or not a player is eligible that should be questioned at game time. Anything after that comes across as nothing but sour grapes. If I had a dollar for everytime I thought a girl looked to big for a particular division I would be able to retire.

As for "tactics", that is the reason for the umpires. If the Ice were not playing within the rules then it is the job of the umpires to do something about it. If they don't then it is the responsibility of the coach of the opposing team to question the action. If that was not done then I would assume everything was legal.

Very interesting to see how many teams are coming together in this short amount of time. FB Thunder run ruled by Ice 96 and then put out by Houston Power. Kaos was put in the losers bracket by Tx Crush and not sure who put them out. High Voltage showed to be a real scrappy team, this was the first time I have seen them play.

The Money tourney should be very interesting.

All in all there were some great games played this past week end. The Texas Thunder are a very good team and therefore you have a right to thump your chest when you beat them. But lets all remember these are 12 year old girls and any team good or bad can beat another team good or bad at any given time. I have watched the Thunder play many a game and I feel like they will be just a big a threat to beat you as they have in the past. Just wasnt there week end. Hope to see them in true form if we face them cause I love great compitition.

The team the Ice was playing was using timeouts to run out the clock so the Ice coach chose a strategy of his own to defeat this tactic.

It is the coaches job to put his players in a position to win by knowing the rules of the game. The Ice coach made a smart move to overcome the strategy of the other coach who was using timeouts to run out the clock. Neither was wrong in what he did...one strategy just outdid the other.

It's all in the eye of the beholder! I for one, would hope my coach would have more
confidence in the batter. But, to each his own!!! Like you said, both coachs were within the rules and they, as well as all coaches will be viewed by their conduct on the field. And to think,we are just getting started!!

That would be a decision for the coach. I am sure this was not a matter of lack of confidence in the hitter. The other coach was stalling to run out the clock. The batter probably would not have got to hit anyway.. The Ice coach had no option but to do what he did to get to another inning and get his team in a position to win.

denver_dog, I really don't think that had anything to do with it. I mean seriously, your coach has never called for the sac bunt to move a runner? Did he have No confidence in the girl he asked to lay down the sac? Probably not, it has more to do with the odds than anything else.
