ASA vs VTD umpires, which is better?

Actually that is incorrect as I was simply an observer here to check out the competition and as far as I know this tournament was rained out on Sunday! Simply put this is just an observation that has me really discouraged to play around this area.

Since the creation of VTD, it seems that the quality of umpires has gone down. VTD needs to do something to create a better understanding of the rules with their umpire pool. Has anyone else has had any poor experiences?

In our area (CTX) it seems ASA is obsolete and VTD has taken over. So the umpires who were ASA are now VTD. IMO umpire calls have remained the same. You have some good and some bad.

Glad to find ASA now has a manageable website. But I will agree many of the nice facilities who were once ASA are now transitioning to VTD. Maybe it was because ASA was so unorganized after the split with VTD.

You can't get anywhere calling VTD. If you want to move up, if you want to get the highest levels, then you're going to work ASA ball. The people scheduling and evaluating talent on the umpire side in the NCAA are all deeply rooted in ASA.

VTD wont be around long enough to worry about.They have 2nd class tourneys and a nationals anyone can get into.My vote ASA

My vote was ASA too...for almost twenty years...until they f'd it up.

You can't get anywhere calling VTD. If you want to move up, if you want to get the highest levels, then you're going to work ASA ball. The people scheduling and evaluating talent on the umpire side in the NCAA are all deeply rooted in ASA.

Move up to where? Midland?

Most of the folks wearing blue simply want a paycheck and not much else...ASA, VTD, or XXX.
