Who will be the top 18U Gold Texas teams this year?

by BestSportEver » Mon Jul 21, 2008 8:29 pm

Interesting post oldskool, my kid plays on a Gold team out of a non-central area and while its true Houston will continue to dominate be careful to dismiss new teams with talent. I saw that Blaze team rock the Katy Heat hard in a gold event a few weeks back. I also saw them take care of the Power in the last qualifier. There are allot of new teams in the dance this year, whether they can compete for a top twenty spot at Gold, probably not. But they earned the right to be there. Grats to all Texas teams that made the biggest tournament of the year.

I worked the FW tourney last weekend. The level of play was downright poor. If the level of plai I witnessed this weekend is an indicator of where the level of play in Texas has moved, it will be a bad gold nationals for TX teams. I will go out on a limb and predict NO team from Texas finishes in the top 24 this year. I hate to agree with my old buddy Lori but I see a lot of two and BBQ for the Texas teams this year.

You people are unbelievable. I have heard the same thing about the talent in every age group, I have heard all the critics including you Glenn say how our team isn't "Gold", etc, etc...

If we go 2 and BBQ so be it, but don't discredit these kids that have worked their butts off to get where they are. We went to Auburn, Houston, OKC and Ft. Worth, we have played great teams all year long and our team has gotten stronger after each event. I have coached teams to top 5 finishes at ASA Nationals when NO ONE thought we where even good enough to go to Nationals. It’s all about the journey and the life experiences, that is what softball is all about to me. I try to minimize when/where I post my opinions, reading all of this negativity is quite sickening and disrespectful to me and everyone else who pours everything they have into this great game.

Lets support all these teams from Texas in all divisions going to Nationals. We have enough people from other states trying to tear up down.

In the Gold division, I think we are pretty good. Texas teams competed very well in Colorado and Alabama.

Well the tryouts are just about history. Lots of moving around this year, more than in most at least in recent memory. Gold nationals went as expected, Lampl's bunch was the class of Texas and proved that at all the north Tx teams were pretenders instead of contenders. Looks to be at least as many if not more gold teams forming in NT. Would make more sense to try and bring the talent together instead of spreading it out even more. We may not see a single team in NT that can qualify or be competitive in 2009. Travelers best team goes to Glory, Glory has about 10 gold teams now, Elite hasn't qualified in so long, Fusion another 2&BBQ, Heat is not very competitive, Rapid Fire is always in rebuild mode. Where do we go from here?

On the real........where to go Gold in Texas??? Ya, Impact is the place to go.......but ya better beyond good to make that squad. Travelers top team to Glory??? Wow!!!! Elite is to involved in host events instead of getting to Nationals. So where is the place to go??? 90+ teams in Houston, then 60+ in Ft Worth.......How many "Gold" teams are there???
