I do not have any personal information about this situation other than what I have read here. But those elite coaches should hopefully have some life lessons.
1. Many of us have learned to respect other human beings, particularly those who are less fortunate in terms of talent, wealth, education, opportunites.
2. We come to these conclusions out of a sense of morality and decency. Some of our parents and relatives have been in these positions in jobs and life.
3. I find this more compelling when I am talking about kids. If I am IG and I say I will either NEVER PLAY a neighboring team, or WILL PUT THEM ON LESSER FIELDS for all games at RMD, this hurts the kids. Why would I want to do that.
4. Some of us who dont care about morality or those who just dont care still have a reason not to do this. You never know who you are hurting and what connections they have. As far as I know, those ELITE teams play on public property. If I had proof of these allegations in my community, I would bring it to the city council, the mayor, the parks and rec people, and if I had the connections these ELITE teams would suffer. You never know when a player on one of those banned teams becomes a coach at a school where IG has a line of recruits and says, we are not going to recruit IG anymore. There are many Texas schools that recruit from the non-elite solid teams in Houston -- watch out, those players from those teams will remember this decision for many years to come.
5. It is a really bad idea to burn bridges because you never know when you have to come back and cross them.
I am guessing most of you are middle aged white men -- your time is coming. In a decade, women will be running the top organizations. Take a look at who is being hired in the college ranks. I am confident it is not a question of whether you will be toppled, it is when.
These are pretty basic ideas. In my part of Texas, we always included our neighboring teams -- even those that were considered hostile and angry. We treated them well and honestly those policies have strengthened softball in the entire community. So, I hope these ELITE coaches look in the mirror and act like model citizens in a Houston SB community.
