Daddy Ball Bashers

by sbfanatic » Fri Aug 21, 2009 9:49 am

Hints of daddy ball:

1: When 5 coaches are listed on VTD and they all have a girl on the team. I recommend to only list the head coach only to hide the possibility of D-ball or scaring away future recruits.

Here is a new posting for a new team in DFW area. Can you guess if this will be a D-ball team or not? I removed team info from this post.

We are looking for 1 to complete our roster.

If you are looking for an outfield position, and you are an athlete. Come to our Sunday practice.

3-5pm

Need an athlete that is coachable and wants to learn and play more then 1 position.

I recommend to post all positions available even if they might not be.... again another post to scare away potential recruits.

Teams from Texas with dad coaches who qualified for ASA Nationals in 2009

12u ASA qualified teams:
Texas Peppers
Texas Kaos
Texas Fury
Texas Bandits
Texas Redhots
Texas Ice 96

14u ASA qualified teams:
Texas Peppers
Mc Magic
Texas Travelers
TPS
Texas Hawks
Big Red
SC Mean Green

I believe all coached by "dads"...must be doing something right.

North Texas 12u Teams coached by dads at ASA A Nationals:
Fusion (3rd Place)
Diamonds (5th Place); 2nd place finish 10u A Nationals (2007)
97 Kruzers (+3 Longhorns) broke up because of daddy ball!

North Texas 12u Teams non-parent coaches at ASA A Nationals:
96 Glory (No longer in existence)

Just because a player was a stud in college does not make them a coach!!!

Just because a non-parent coaches does not make them a good coach!!!

Just because you pay high dues does not make it worthwhile!!!

If you watch these teams play, they are coached well and have excellent talent.

All good points, but to an additonal point...

Just because they made ASA A Nationals doesn't mean there was no Daddy Ball.

Just because they made ASA A Nationals doesn't mean there was no "Perceived" Daddy ball.

In either case if you look at the teams from 12u that made ASA, 3 of them no longer exist. Bad chemistry or daddy ball can get you to Nats with great or even really good players, but not consistantly.

Don't everyone fool themselves. Just because the coach doesn't have a kid on the team doesn't mean he/she doesn't have his/her favorites....every coach does whether they admit it or not. Seen it all too often, but it's just not called "daddy ball" or "mama ball" because they don't have a kid on the team. IMO, it's all the same thing in the end.

Not daddy ball then

Then the bashing makes sense to me. Anyone that would knowingly leave an inferior player in a position when a better one was on the team should not be coaching. I have seen that, not on our team, but it was a sponsor's kid, not a coach's kid. I questioned the intelligence of the coach for telling me about it, and his ability as a coach for fostering it, but it was "his" team, I guess.

You will know real daddy ball when you see it.

The 96 Bombers are also coached by one one the players fathers and I believe they finished somewhere around the top ten in class A in Normal.

Daddyball when....
1-only one girl on your team is allowed to talk back to you
2-only one girl gets to work through her mistakes
3- you go to a friendly and every other team has at least one of your ex-players.
4-ex-parents watch your game and cheer for the other team.
5-ex- parents bash you on heybucket
6-can't understand why you have enemies dating back to rec ball.
7-death threats from bipolar mom (that goes for any coach).
8-only one girl gets to come late and leave early
9-when she makes a mistake is told the team owes her because they didn't back her up
10- doesn't come to practice but still starts every inning of every game
11. … in a bracket game, the umpire asks the bucket coach to pull the catcher because he was hit by 3 pitches in a row in the first inning…it doesn’t happen.
12. …. your assistant coach has to pull the head coach’s kid.
13. …. your daughter is batting 4th in the lineup with less than a .200 BA. and the 8th and 9th holes hitters hit the ball to the fence more than the 4 hole.
14. ….you take your two catchers to a lesson and the instructor tells you not to bring your daughter back.

This isn't about Daddy Ball, but I'm curious about something. Why would the 96 Bombers after finishing in the top 10 in Normal want to play in the 12U at the Ronald McDonald. They've been signed up for a while and I've seen teams added to the 14U. I would think if they really wanted to, they could get in the the 14U. I bet they have enough pull to get that accomplished.
