You could really make it simple on yourself and move to New Braunfels and split the difference and be right in between Austin and San Antonio! New Braunfels is fast becoming one of the richest areas of softball in the state. They have 3 High Schools and ALL 3 are ranked in the top 20 in the state.....comal county might have the highest concentration of softball players of anywhere. The select program Texas Bombers has become a very solid program and feeds these three HS with tons of talent!

Plus New Braunfels is a way better place to raise a kid than San Antonio or Austin!

Very true...but I doubt pixguy could handle all the GOP bumper stickers in New Braunfels in 2012. That, and all the right-wing Germans would run him out of town as soon as he flapped his jaw about how great the O man is...

I must not have made it to the nice part of New Braunfels yet. I enjoy playing there, but live? Or am I thinking of a different area- Huber and that Lutheran college??

I would rank it Austin, NB, then SA.

The only big DI game I know of that week is Baylor v A&M on the 15th. Should be a really good game, but about 2 hours away.

And although Austin is expensive for TX, we are still a very affordable state, unless you want prime acreage.

Huber and Texas Lutheran are in Seguin, 16 miles from New Braunfels. New Braunfels has way too much traffic for me, the area around NB to Smithson Valley and all around there is just beautiful country.

As for which program, or high school, I would look at the records of the teams you would like to join. Most Centex programs can get you into Texas State, St. Eds, St. Marys if you are good enough. But there are only a few in centex that can get you to the elite D1 softball programs. These programs get preferential treatment at exposure tournaments -- better fields, times, and opponents. Their coaches get to know the college coaches and they develop a relationship. That is why so many kids have driven to Houston to play for the Power or Impact Gold or Sudden Impact. If you do not aspire to top D1 or if you do not have the talent, most organized programs will do just fine.
