Houston area 10U teams: Diluted Talent?

College is a long way off at 10U and 12U. Many of the "best" 10U players are not even in competitive softball by the time they are 14U. Kids who were little and fast in 10U are your power hitters at 14U. Your number 2 pitcher at 10U may become a phenom by the time she is 14. Once the players have transitioned to playing 12U and gotten their growth, you can begin to make assessments on who is the real deal and who is not.

The 10U division is just the beginning of a long road that, for some, may lead to 18U Gold and a D-1 scholarship.

thats my point exactly. you have to be with an orginization t5hat is going to go to the right tournaments and who know the right people. I cannot speak for all orginizations but the head of our orginizations main goal is to get each and everyone of our girls a college scholarship, and is doing a very good job at it. Everyone has their own opinion about how it should go but the results dont lie so i want my dd to learn the same thing that the older girls are learning that have already commited to play d-1 ball. And the girls that have signed to mentor the younger girls, what better role model than to have " big sisters" actually living their dream and mentoring the younger girls. Mentoring them not only on softball but on life and school also. To me thats what is all about. But like I said the parent have to make that decision and do what they think is right. What is right for one may not beright for another and I am not going to set here and say my way is the right and only way because its not. Its just the way I chose for myy dd and if it helps the other parents then great.

here's a wake-up call to all 10u parents........let them be kids and play all the(or as little) softball that they want through 14u. If they have what it takes (desire, skill, physical attributes.), then put them in a position to play at the next level at 16u..! Your kid will love you for not pushing them too hard, and you will love yourself for not wasting a bunch of time on something that wasn't meant to be....!!! g-luck...

.if you are really thinking about a scholarship at 10uor 12u for your dd you are going into softball for the wrong reason. if the scholarship is there great, more than likely she will not attain a scholarship. my sister was a great pitcher for the university of OKLAHOMA (RaeLyn Rowton was her name) and i played football and basketball in college at the D1 level both on full rides. my parents never were concerned with the scholarship issue, we graduated high school in 1986 and me1988 that was when the coaches found you, you did not have to promote yourself. they scouted and found you. my parents would have preferred to paid for our education and have us attend OU or OSU (Oklahoma state university) by chance or luck it happened. we lived in Texas because of my fathers job in Houston and softball was just getting big here, but we are from Oklahoma; hence the reason to attend a Oklahoma school. if you do the math it is better to save your money $300 per month ( this is on the cheep side) per child instead of paying for softball and be prepared to be fiscally responsible for your Childs education. $300 per month for 18 years is $72,800 without compounded interest for 18 years. just play the game and enjoy the time with your children and be a life coach for all the players; and you, in return will have much greater gratification than any scholarship your child may received. furthermore the grind of playing college sports is daunting and a job, after my college athletic days were over i look back at what i missed out on and it may not have been worth it. when my sister and I attended graduate school only then did we realize what we missed. like the NCAA commercial states we all will be going pro in something other than sports
