Team Mizuno

If someone wants to start a new organization beginning with the younger girls, why does that infuriate people so much? Why immediately start looking for the negative? If you don't want to try out, don't. If it doesn't fit your situation because you have older girls, then ignore it. And, if you know all of the problems out there, then why not try to help someone get it right?
I don't know any details myself, but it looks like they are concentrating on getting more female coaches who have fast pitch experience, and I think that's a good thing. Most of the big organizations I know of have male coaches. Many are good coaches, and most know the game of baseball/softball in general - who covers what, when to tag up, etc. But, I don't think any of them have played select women's fast pitch softball, or college softball. It's not the only thing that matters, but I think it helps. I am always thinking things like - what would make the girl more confident; why are they afraid to try a certain thing; how can I say something in a way that makes sense to them.
I personally don't see anything wrong with having a lot of teams ages 10U - 14U. To be a good player, you have to play. I want my daughter to scratch, claw, sometimes win, sometimes lose, but most of all play. And, play all the positions she has the ability to play. 10U - 14U is not the end of the journey, it's just the beginning.

Yep! Just too many male coaches. You see it all the time. They are just not qualified.

OC Batbusters Gold - Gary Haning
Worth Firecrackers Gold - Tony Rico
Sorcerers Gold - Phil Mumma
Texas Impact Gold - Stoney Burke/K.C. Jackson
Texas Glory Gold (Shelton) - Kevin Shelton

And of course . . .
Baylor - Glenn Moore, Mark Lumley
Texas Tech - Shannon Hays
Missouri - Ehren Earleywine
Oklahoma State - Rich Wieligman
Arkansas - Mike Larabee
Wichita State - Mike Pernicio
North Texas - T.J. Hubbard
Northwestern - Donald Pickett
Sam Houston State - Bob Brock
Texas A&M - CC - Jake Schumann
West Texas A&M - Kevin Blaskowski
Angelo State - Travis Scott
Midwestern State - Brady Tigert
and of course . . .
Arizona - Mike Candrea
Mississippi State - Jay Miller
Alabama - Patrick Murphy
Florida - Tim Walton

Yep, just not qualified.

First of all, where did I say they were not qualified? I think I said the men hadn't played women's fast pitch softball. And, I said it could be a good thing for women to be a part of the teams.

Second, I was talking about the younger girls, 10U-14U. By the time the girls get to college, they are already ball players, or they aren't. The coaches below did not make them players.

Good job on all the research, though - must have taken a while. I am surprised Bob Brock is at Sam Houston State. He was at Texas A&M back in the mid- late 80s.

I've found the exact opposite to be true. Most of these former players are young and right out of school with little or no management experience. While they may know the game, managing players, parents, game situations is a different ball game. Personally, I've seen three of these wonderful prospects go away to get a real job...and that's not to say that a few may work out to be decent coaches.

Actually, heybucket's list could be done by any parent of a 16u or older player off the top of their head. But Team Mizuno wouldn't know that because you're all 10u parents, high school coaches, and ex-players who are going to show us how to build an organization that can get our kids to the "next level."

That's why it's probably best to have a manager and coaches. I agree, there is a difference.

If you cannot see any positives at having ex softball players, especially around the younger girls, then I am talking to the wrong people.

Since you already have a 16U that has all the skills, just use your list. I'm sure the coaches are waiting for your call.

Ex-player, female coaches are great idea! Doesn't mean that they necessary make good coaches at all. Lots of existing organizations already offer their players teams with ex-players as coaches, assistant coaches, etc. Team Mizuno sounds to me like you are re-inventing the wheel and don't even know it.

I think the better question is why does it infuriate new organizations so much when people point out what they do wrong? I'll agree, a lot of people on here (myself included at times) may have the wrong approach and just sound like their being d!cks, but there is a wealth of knowledge from some of the people who have been around a long time. Mizzuno is nothing new. New teams and new organizations start up every year, all with good intentions, some with really good ideas. Some hang around for a while, and some crash & burn. Point is, there's always someone who's experience stops at the 10U B ball level who is defending every negative point thrown out there. Why not read between the asinine commentary and take something from what all of these people are telling you?
