14u D-Bat vs Glory

by Hey Dill » Sun Aug 23, 2009 8:27 am

Ok, last week people were on here talking about the poor turnout for 14u D-Bat Chambers tyouts, with only 13-15 kids showing up. If I remember right, they didn't even post they were having tryouts until the middle of that week, so I think that is a respectable turnout considering the other tryouts, school activities, the late notice, etc......

Glory, on the other hand, has had their posts out about tryouts for months. Established organization. The "name" organization for North Texas softball. Two 14u teams being fielded. Estimated number of girls at their tryouts? 28!!

Do the math. A brand new organization draws basically as many girls to their tryout as the all mighty Glory! How does one explain that? Maybe the great win loss record that the Wines/Poole combo put up kept girls away. Maybe the lack of progress that the girls on these teams showed was noticed by parents. Maybe the lack of fundamental coaching contributed. Maybe the BS that they sling about the Glory "pipeline", and being the feeder teams for the 16u and 18u teams finally caught up to them.

The 16u and 18u Glory teams I am sure will be strong, and continue to be strong for years to come, because they seem to have coaching staffs in place that grasp the game. Why, as an organization, would you allow a duo like Wines/Poole to coach at such a key level as 14u? The level of transition, the level where development seems to be key. I for one am looking forward to this fall and next spring, to see which organization comes out on top in this age group. My money is on D-Bat.

28 girls is about what the other big dogs are bringing in for tryouts right now. BUT what matters is the talent that is coming in. Teams like this should already have the girls that will play for them in there pocket and are really looking for one or two unknowns.

How many does that 96 team actually have "in its pocket" though. Half the dang roster IS dbat now and the other half and coaching staff is scattered around all over the place.

IF MEMORY SERVES ME CORRECTLY I told all of you before nationals that the 96 GLORY SHELTON/WINES was and is a non factor in any softball circle.

This team if you could even call it that very well may have had some great players & parents. But with the staff & mindset of the team they never & will never amount to anything period. The only way for Kevin & Glory to fix this situation is flush the old Glory toilet.

The Glory org. was more that patient with the staff & familes & they did not get the job done,END OF STORY!!!!!

Let these poor people rest.Lord knows they need a break. I hope all the girls can find a GOOD TEAM BUT THEY STILL NEED TO REALIZE !!!!! THERE IS NOT A QUICK FIX IN LIFE.IT WILL TAKE PATIENCE & HARD WORK & THE TEAM ATTITUDE!!!!!!!
D-BAT "LOL" Will not I repeat !!WILL NOT BE A QUICK FIX!!! BIG FANTASY!!! iF YOU WANT QUICK GO TO Mc Donalds.

Wait I have a great idea why don't you all go to a FUSION OR DIAMONDS PRACTICE OR GAME maybe talk to their coaching staff. It seems they may have the recipe for success. It's the same road all great teams take.

THANK YOU

There are some other points to consider:

1. 28 girls at the 14U tryout on the Shelton side and 64 girls at the 14U tryout on the Adkins side. There are more trying out than you know for Glory. I was at both tryouts.

2. The number of girls trying out actually doesn't mean that much. The determining factor is the talent that shows up. Are there any players that can play and how well can they play?

3. The name really does mean something.....like it or not. Once you start to REALLY focus on learning the recruiting tactics that college coaches use to get the talent the want, you'll realize that it's true. Right or wrong, it's the world of select ball and it's what gets your daughter a scholarship in order to play past high school. I'm not saying that Glory is the only name that the college coaches look for, I'm just saying that there is a "name factor" involved when the coaches recruit. If the organization is new, they better have a coach that is known in the college world somehow or have a lot of good contacts. Otherwise, your just playing for the sake of playing and with no higher goals.

Hey Dill, DILL!!! I wouldn't put my money on D-bat just yet. My DD tried out for them under the recommendation of a friend who thought they had something strong building. Can't tell you how the talent was on the first try out because I was unable to attend but was able to catch the second tryout and was not impressed. They had a few good athletes out there but it also looked like they had their choice between 9-10 girls total. DD also attended the Poole tryout and there was was an enormous amount more talent there. Just my opinion. My DD chose the 3rd option we had. Glad she did! :D
