Gold team, Gold Player

by sbfanatic » Tue Aug 25, 2009 9:12 am

Need info on Gold teams and Players. If a 14 or 16 year old player decides to make the move to a Gold team can they play back down to 14U or 16U after the season ends or switch teams to a non Gold Team? I heard once your Gold you must stay Gold. Or could I have misinterpreted that once a team Is a Gold Team the must always remain Gold but players could play what ever they want?

My favorite ASA myth. But, ask you local ASA commissioner.

The only thing ASA addresses is once you have signed an official ASA championship roster for a summer. After that, your DD is locked on that roster for the remainder of ASA championship play. She can not leave the Gold team and drop down an age group to continue to play ASA championship play. As far as ASA is concerned, your DD can leave the Gold team and go play in a local non-ASA qualifying tournament anytime you want.

The exception is each tournament and local association that is sanctioning the tournament may have its own set of rules. Some tournament directors won't let players who regularly play with "A" teams drop down to play in a weekend "B" tournament.

Once you have declared Gold on a teams roster that is gold you must remain there until the season is over.

Can you tell us where you found that in the ASA Code. . . and what do you mean by "declared Gold on a team's roster that is gold" and what is a "season." If you mean joining a team calls itself gold in September means you are locked onto that team's roster for next summer, you are just wrong.

Heybuckethead comment about the championship roster makes sense. Thanks for clearing it up for me.
