Speed and Conditioning

Entire books have been written on the topic, but in a nutshell I guess it would be best described as exercises that contract/decontract muscles extremely rapidly. One example that my DD does would be what we call "bench jumps"
She stands sideways next to a bench and jumps over the bench sideways, gets her footing, then jumps back to the other side. Repeat until failure.

Plyometrics simply is "jump training". It will do wonders for leg strength and agility. However, plyo is just one part of what should be a complete program. Maybe do plyo two time per week and focus on core exercises and agility drills the rest of the time. I am a big fan of the P90x workout program. It has everything you need to develop speed and strength. The secret to all of this as stated earlier, these programs are not a once per week deal, they must be a way of life combined with the proper diet and sleep schedules.

im no trainer -- but it comes down to packing the work into a short period of time. any kind of box jumps, chunking medicine balls, jumpsoles.

regular pushups are slow protracted effort, launch yourself and clap and catch yourself again -- plyo. regular lunges are slow protracted effort, jump from leg to leg and catch yourself on the way down -- plyo. difference between a dead lift and a clean. thats how i think of it.

p90x - don't knock until you try it. My bet is that you could not complete the program old man.

How is this not accurate? Have you ever done it?

What I have done doesn't make your statement any more or less accurate. I'm simply stating the facts. While "jump training" may be plyometrics, plyometrics is not "simply jump training"
Any exercise used to increase the force of muscle contraction is considered plyometrics. Overhead throws and side throws, for example are plyometrics. Neither of them involve jumping. So unless I'm misunderstanding you, and your definition of jump training is actually synonymous with true plyometric exercises, then your statement was not accurate.

ZOOM is a great place. I can't begin to tell you how many of our players that have utilized the services of Jim Sweiter and his staff. If you can work with Jim or John, they are great. The program is directed to not only add speed and agility, but they have softball specific training to help add speed to your throw or pitch, helping pitchers become more explosive with their first step. We have a laundry list of players including my own daughters that have been customers since they were in 12-U. Jim also discounts if your bringing a team in for "speed camp" or for multiple programs. You will NOT be disappointed.
