Select Players in Rec

Usually the coaches or board members will know who is select. They also are also the standout players. We have played against other teams that have select and rec girls mixed in, and unless it's a class A pitcher, it is a chance for the girls to play better teams.

There are plenty of Select Teams that are Rec like. You are wasting your time playing in rec. Your will get enough game time in two tourneys to have played more games than a rec season!! So why waste your time with kids that don't know which way to run. We thought our first daughter needed the game time to get better. Our second when straight into Select never played rec. We wish someone had told us about select before we wasted two seasons on a rec league that took in money and have us a T-Shirt and a participation trophy. DD only got better because we played catch in the back yard and hit off a T. We had to find a real coach once she master the little bit that I could teach her. Select all the way. Work at home and teach them the game. They will enjoy much better than loosing games when that kid that is sitting in center field doesn't get up to go get the ball that almost hit her in the head. She will learn how to hit by seeing pitchs instead of dodging the beginer that can't get it over the plate more than twice in a game.

But when you have 1 that is competitive and the other is a social butterfly, it makes it hard to justify anything other than rec. Now, if it was an art competition, she would be great. So for now, I get both.

Understand that most Rec. organizations will probably know who is playing Select and who isn't. The question is is there a means for a Rec. organization to bounce players to see who has played Select, even if they have played in only one Select tournament during the spring or fall season? Need to keep coaches honest and ringers at bay.

I understand the developing pitcher thing. What I dont understand is the select player dad/rec coach bringing in the select players so he can be the big thing in rec. Another problem is we have select teams who play both rec and select (obviously not very good select teams) When they are in a select tournament they cancel their rec games and the rec girls get messed over. There they stand on game day with no one to play. Several times these teams did not even call in advance. They only play one game a week so this is very unfare to the rec girls. I dont have a big problem with the younger ages say 8U or 10U doing both but after that teams need to decide what they are. Rec? or select?

For this Rec. league, we are considering limiting one Select player (hopefully pitchers) per 8U and 10U team in hopes of raising the level of competition within the league. Both divisions have 10+ teams so we want to spread Select players out. Again just looking for a means to keep coaches honest and ringers at bay when end of season tournament begins. Trying to create parity for all teams.
