The High School season and college season run at the same time. Most college coaches do there own recruiting so they obviously can not attend High School games. The only reason a player might be looked at in HS is if she is a senior and the college is trying to fill a last minute spot for the fall. The majority of recruiting is done in the off season mostly the Fall.

You're a college softball coach. You would:

A. Attend individual high school games all over the country to evaluate talent, and do so during your own college softball season. Evaluate talent based upon performance against Susie, Becky, et al who happen to reside in a particular school district.

B. Attend showcases where 100+ teams are in attendance and they often take place during the summer when your own team isn't playing. Evaluate talent based upon performance against travel players from all over an area, including teams from different states.

We're all ignorant about this recruiting stuff in the beginning but I've found that common sense and putting yourself in a college coaches shoes can go a long way. And understanding that your kid is competing for a scholarship with kids not just in your area, but all over your state and the nation.

You may see a college coach occasionally at a high school game. Had one come to our game last night, but it is a rarity here.

You may see some at the tournament since if memory serves me correctly going to a high school tournament game does not count against their recruiting days for the year. Correct me if I am wrong.

In my opinon though the coach that showed up last night to watch one kid in particular to me says that coach is very interested in that player and would go a long way with me.

Since sectionals start next week you may see some, but I will say chances are they are there to take a second, third or however many number look at a kid they first saw at a showcase event in the summer.
