I'm probably not the best person to ask, I've only been to one real tryout and I was pissed off at that. All they had to do was look at their book from the previous season when we played them.
What I would look for is organization. Are they organized, do they have a practice plan, do they know what they're doing, or are they just winging it. Are kids constantly busy, or is there a bunch of standing around. Listen to what input if any they give, do they know what they're talking about? Depending on what you're looking for in a team, has this team been where you want to go? Do they have a track record? Is it a start-up team with 6 players and five dads in the dugout? If you look at the ads, every 16U/18U team on there is going to ASA/USA and they're playing showcases. If that's your goal, you need to figure out that all but a handful are lying about it or just simply don't know/understand what it takes to do that stuff. And that handful most likely isn't running ads on eteamz looking for a pitchers, catcher, and CF to go with their "great core group".
Every man lives by a code:
1.Always look cool
2.Never get lost
3.If you get lost, look cool
