A Ball Players Prayer

by afastpitchfanatic » Thu Aug 19, 2010 11:35 am

I realize this may not be for everyone, but I think it's worth sharing.

A Ball Players Prayer
~by Hal Skinner

God grant me the wisdom,
to tell a strike from a ball,
to know where to throw,
and never to fall.

Keep me always in the base line,
running straight and true,
and I'll look for your sign,
to stretch one into two.

God give me vision,
to see every pitch,
so if a player needs help,
then I will see which.

Let me always hustle,
so I'll be at my best,
and take pride in myself,
in sports and the rest.

God be my strength,
when I throw the ball,
when I'm far from home plate,
or against a wall.

So I never miss a base,
please guide my feet,
bring me home safely,
so my job is complete.

When I help younger players,
let me always give praise,
so they'll see you in me,
in all of my ways.

God please guide our coach,
to be fair and smart,
to teach us to be good,
let it come from his heart.

Let me take a loss,
just as well as a win,
to do any less,
is surely a sin.

As long as I can play,
let me make my parents proud,
as proud as I am,
when they yell my name out loud.

However my games end,
let me always have fun,
and if Heaven has All-Stars,
I want to be one.

When my games here are over,
and my seasons are done,
let me play on your team,
just like your son.

~Amen~

Within one minute of posting, I received a scolding private message.
What is the world coming to? I'm not a religious fanatic, in fact, far from it....my daughter received a copy of it at her end of the year party and thought it was something worth sharing.

I guess not. :?

Not from your state but browse the boards. If you don't have any objection, I am taking this prayer to ours and passing it out to our softball organization here. We pray before each game, if people don't like it they can find another team. The most refreshing thing I saw at nationals was a team from Tennessee named Team AFC - Athletes for Christ. It is a breath of fresh air to see others believe. Keep posting. Those people who are offended can all take a hike and just not read it. They are the reason the world is so SCREWED up.

And FYI I am not a fanatic, just a believer.

I also want to thank you for posting the prayer. I think it is really good. Then again, I'm just an old Mississippi boy, what do I know. I never have been known to be very politcally correct. With your permission, I would like to share it with others.

One more vote in favor of your posting. I wonder if the person who sent you the private posting also scolds the T.V. networks for broadcasting the crap they do? I wonder if they scold the people that drop the F bomb (or other foul language) in public, even with young children near by? I wonder why they didn't post their scolding for everyone to see?

I logged back in to see if there were any negative replies. Thinking maybe, I just needed to remove the post. Much to my surprise, I see exactly what I was originally hoping for....other people like me, who appreciate the poem.
I'm so thankful for those who have posted, and YES, please share!!
The author would surely be proud that his work is being read and passed on.
Again, thank you for the kind words and encouragement to keep this post public.

Count me in as another who appreciates the poem. While we all have our own beliefs, I don't think you should impose them on others. My question is why did the person who pm'd you not have the guts to post it. I am definitely going to share this with my 9 yr. old dd especially since we rarely are able to attend church with friendlies on Sun. lol. :)

I agree...if they don't like it , they don't have to read it.

There was a team/ organization that my daughters played against in IL (the Lemont Rockers)that always prayed on the mound after a game. Very Cool to see!!
