Her softball season is on hold

by coolstuff » Fri Feb 12, 2010 2:26 pm

I post here frequently so I thought I would share some news about DD. Last week, her appendix burst, and as of today (2/12) she is still recovering from an emergency appendectomy. The surgeon had to cut a pretty good size opening to get the infection cleaned out. She's been battling the infection and inflamed bowels all week. There's been some rough patches along the way but today has been a good day so we hope she might get released over the weekend. Of course TB practices and an upcoming indoor at Sportszone are out of the picture. She'll likely have to sit out HS SB practices for a while, and we don't know yet how long the recovery will be. The best hope is that she'll be OK to play in the first game of the season on March 27. So I guess her sophomore season will be all about getting back into shape for the TB season. ;) I know she'll rebound from this but it's been depressing for her to be in the hospital for a week, and she's missed even more days from school because she was home sick a few days before it was caught. Thanks for listening and good luck to everyone as the HS season begins.

Sorry to hear about your dd. Do they do the surgery by laser now? Not as big a scar I hope but I guess being an emergency they did what they had to do. She must be very disappointed. Godspeed in her recovery.

Very sorry to hear about her surgery...many prayers for a quick recovery. Though it will be hard for her, getting completely healthy should be her (and her hs coache's) ulimate goal. Too many kids try to come back too soon only to have another setback. Best wishes and I'm sure she will be looking forward to the travel season.

Thanks to everyone for your thoughts and prayers. DD came home yesterday (Saturday) and is resting comfortably. Not sure when she will be able to go back to school; the surgeon left it up to her and us. Whenever she feels ready. Knowing DD, she will want to get back to class as soon as possible and will work as hard as necessary to get caught up academically. Physically this could take a while.

That really is a tough surgery to recover from. I will keep her in my prayers. Athletes have a natural ability to bounce back from physical adversity and I am sure your DD is going to do just that! :D
