Who are the big dogs in 4a, 3a, 2a and 1a?

by softballrebels » Wed Feb 10, 2010 6:05 pm

With the high school season approaching, just curious who will be the big dogs in each of the 4 classes? Have not had a child play high school yet and only know about some of the Indy area teams. Curious about some of the better teams statewide. Good luck and good health to all the girls this season.

Edinburgh could make some noise in 1A, problem being they're in Lutheran's sectional.
Keep an eye on Eastern (Pekin) in 2A in the south.
Jennings County will challenge Floyd Central in the south. East Central will be a factor as well.

Love this time of year when everyone is speculating who will be the teams to beat! How about a different side of this question...who will have experience coming back and who will be rebuilding? That might tell us alot about who will dominate. I think Carmel has alot of upperclassmen and maybe Noblesville and HSE so those are probably good calls in 4A.

After we (Roncalli) play Franklin Central twice, New Pal, Decatur Central, Southport, Lutheran, Whiteland, Greenfield Central, Scecina, Greenwood, Martinsville, Floyd Central, Owensboro Catholic, and Louisville Mercy (DH), we'll have a pretty good idea where we're at. :?

I won't make any predictions for our team, or any others for that matter; that's for you grizzled veterans out there. I do know we're losing the best class that's ever come through Roncalli (8 seniors), so we'll be "young and dumb" unless I learn a thing or two in the next month.

4a I know it sounds crazy watchout for Greenwood. Had a great freshman class last season and maybe a better one this year. They will hit and Devyn Baker is a senior.

McCutcheon will be rebuilding. Lost a lot of seniors and hitting from a disappointing season last year, but there were some good freshmen players on the JV team biding their time. Also a sophomore pitcher is transferring in from Lafayette Jeff, leaving Jeff's pitching staff thin. So don't look for Lafayette Jeff to improve any. Harrison returns with a senior pitcher who took them to state runner-up. Lots of good talent remains on that team and the Raiders will likely make another run through the tournament.

Forgot Henryville in 1A. Most of this team comes from the Stunners program. They're a solid high school team. Lost a heartbreaker to Tecumseh 1-0 in 11 last year in the regional. They have most of their kids back, including pitcher Amanda Embry.

One of the 4 finalist (Cowan) in 1A last year only lost 1 player... :) Not saying they are going to get back there, but....
