Thank you everyone who has been so supportive the last week. I have appreciated the advice given, especially from slapperdad, and took his suggestion to
“Stay calm, pick and choose your actions and words VERY carefully” and for this reason have not responded to Insoftballnut, or posted on heybucket, before now.
Insoftballnut the hardest thing about communicating through the written word on a forum, such as this, is words are read and interpreted based more on our own experiences and mindset then that of the person who wrote the words.
That said I understand why going to Moline is an honor and great experience for the girls. I personally, along with my dd, were very excited about nationals. I also realized, as slapper stated, there were other factors to consider and thought the coaches leaving the decision up to a parents vote was a wise decision. The girls worked hard to qualify for Moline but no matter which end of the season tourney we attended the girls would have had fun and built memories.
I wanted to briefly address a few of your statements.
“But guess what, even the last place finisher at USA/ASA nationals is a 'WINNER' because they made the cut to be there..Indiana gives out like 4-6 berths to the USA/ASA nationals in each age group,,some states give less and some way more. It should be an honor for any team to make the cut and go.”The cut in Indiana didn’t seem to be near as hard as it is in other states. Yes there may be only 4-6 berths but look at the number of teams who attended the qualifiers. One NWI qualifier was cancelled due to lack of teams, one in southern Indiana had six teams, the one at terra haute played 10 and 12u together. ASA state had less than ten teams. One of the reason we were so excited to make a team, whose goal was nationals, was because qualifying at 12u, in Indiana, is much easier than at 14u. When we first started playing in qualifiers, in other states, I thought wow this is going to be hard. I am not saying it was easy to qualify in Indiana but at 12u it was much more probable then it will be as the girls age.
Your pointing out alot of maybes of douchbag parents and other things,, the point is that everyone involved in travel ball should know the expense involved and be prepared with fundraisers , car pooling, or friend & family sponsors , if i offended her in any way, i deeply apologize. I agree.
Maybe i understood what dailyjoy was realy trying to say, but i didnt want to be over rude and just say the truth. You do not know the truth and to make assumptions can be considered rude but I was not offended by what you wrote.
Insoftballnut you would be happy to know the parents did vote and choose to go to Moline. Unfortunately, last Tuesday we received an email from one of our coaches. A parent decided, after the majority had voted for Nationals, they did not want to go to Moline, or any tourney, and instead wanted to play local tourneys to finish out the season.
The team’s goals for the season were clear from the beginning and the girls worked so hard to achieve each goal (which they did). We played in some really tough tourneys in Illinois and Michigan focused on preparing and qualifying for Moline. Playing in local tourney’s and not attending Nationals, or even the NSA world series or ASA northern was never part of the plan, therefore, the coaches voted to end the season. I understand their decision. They also choose not to play in NSA state this past weekend due to concern parents may get in an argument.
I still can’t believe in the blink of an eye the season is over and the girls never had a chance to say goodbye. It is very sad. How do you explain to a young 12 year old girl why all her hard work, everything she worked for during the season, has ended?
My dd is upset but isn’t giving up on softball or the goal planted in her this season. We joined an A team who’s goal was to qualify and play in the ASA/USA national championship. We were clueless, and according to Insoftballnut still are, what this season would bring. Even though it ended in disappointment the season changed dd from a girl who enjoyed playing softball to someone who thrives on tough competition and has ambitious hopes of going to the ASA/USA 14u championship next year in Normal Illinois……….Now we just have to find her a new team
Thats very good what she's doing with a child thats not even her's as you stated, But where i come from,we never tell the right hand what the left one has done,, On a side note I don’t think I have ever mentioned the child I support and encourage in softball was not my daughter. I usually put dd just because it is easier than explaining my relationship to her.
I want to take a moment to thank everyone who posted in the 12u thread and the Indiana forum. I have learned so much this year reading what you have written and enjoyed bantering back and forth with you.
I also want to wish everyone the best of luck in their chosen end of the year championship. Whether it is NSA, ASA, the Worlds Series or a National Championship each team should be very proud of all they accomplished this year. Hopefully each girl will go away from the championship with great memories and a desire to achieve even more next year.
I am not sure how active I will be here from now on. Though dd really wants to play again next year I just don't know if I believe there are teams out there where the girls really do come first and the team is of higher priority then any one girl. Are there?
