I Coach the 10U Indiana Magic. We are primarily a 9U team. We have one 8 year old, 7 nine year olds and 3 ten year olds. We are going to NSA "A" Nationals In Chattanooga this season and plan on trying for a berth to ASA/USA Nationals next season. it is right that there are teams in Indiana who sandbag to play a national event close to home. i.e. Michigan City, Peoria, Indy. If you are a true B team then that is fine, but I feel if you can compete, not win, compete, then you should be going to "A' Nationals. Our organization is geared towards building resumes for college scholarships and Bake understands this as well as anyone. Going to "A" nationals and how many times your kids been there, could be the tiebreaker between your kid and someone elses in trying to obtain a scholarship. Through all this attempt at playing at a high level, it is the coaches job to keep it fun and monitor the barometer of the team as you build it.
NSA is very strong in Indiana at the younger age groups and yes alot play "B" ball because of the Nationals location, but there a few at 10U who choose to play at a higher level. Also we all know that at weach age group there are more registered "A" teams as you go. So what if there were only 6 teams at "A" State last year. It was a very competitive field last year and all but one finished in the top 11 at NSA "A" Nationals last year. This year there are 8 teams in State and I am looking forward to it. I cant wait to see my young team compete against the best in my state and against those that want to compete against the best.
See you down at State Bake and good luck!

Dude! I would have paid you to have given that speech a month or two ago (I said close to the exact same thing to certain folks.....but I was just talking crazy talk according to them.... once the mob mentality takes over it's a hard thing to stop).

It's definitely that time of year when the craziness of the parents surfaces! It doesn't take much for these "crazies" to get a mob formed. Best of luck to all coaches this next month in dealing with the parent mobs!

Because coaches are completely innocent. I am tired of the parent bashing..maybe if some of these coaches take a step back and accept some responsibility for things instead of blaming kids and their parents things would go more smoothly. Instead your middle aged egos get in the way and everyone suffers.

I'm just gonna throw My Magic 01 team out there as one of the top teams(bottom 10 maybe). They have come a looooong way since September and have worked their butts off to get where they are as a team now. My younger pitchers are developing well now as well, which bodes good for next season. I am so proud of these girls and how hard they have worked and had fun at the same time. I really can not believe this is the same team from September. Good Luck to all the Teams in "A" State this weekend. Should be alot of fun. GO MAGIC!! :D
