Winter Tournaments

Canocorn,

To answer your question about the complex in LaFayette, I am told that games are played on an indoor soccor field with a regulation distance left field but a short right field. A net hangs about 10-15 feet behind the infield in right.

If the drive isn't too far, the Dome in Fort Wayne is the best place to play games indoors in Indiana. I wish we had one like it in South Bend.

They played 10s and 12s there this past weekend. As Stubbs said, games are played on an indoor soccer field so there is not much right field. The turf is similar to Sportszone although it is in much better condition. Most of the girls slid at one time or another and had no problems.

For the money it was a pretty good deal. Games were 75 minutes and the tourney was double elimination. I think that all the future tourneys are round robin 4 or 5 game guarantees. They also have a really nice warm up area. Large area to throw and 6 cages to hit in.

The facility does not compare to The Dome but most of those tourneys are full so it does give you a chance to see live pitching in January and February and I think they have it priced reasonably.

There were a lot of good teams at the sportzone last weekend for 16U. A few upsets that I heard. How did everybody do?

Can't really be any "upset" at the sportzone! The better teams don't play thier "A" game. ie bunting, sliding!! To many injuries! Plus, is it a upset when you get beat at 3am??

The Gators won again.. I believe they have won every 16u tournament there this winter. Heck, I am not sure they have lost a game there this winter. We stopped by and watched a couple of games at the last tournament, and they had nice mix of out of state teams. Orland Park A's brought a couple of teams, a couple from Mich and Wisconsin. We watched the Dreams 14u play against a good out of state team. Ended up 1-1, I believe. That Dreams team is very impressive. Talked with one of the parents, the team is made up of 7th and 8th graders. And he said they can not find any competition at 14u in Indiana.

no real surprise there, the last time we played the Gators at the Zone, it seemed like they definitely had home field advantage ( not to mention ALOT of roster latitude..!) We didn't play in any tourneys there this winter, hopefully my kid is done playing there for good..!
