Hitting instructors

by Jeremy B. » Sat Feb 26, 2011 6:02 pm

Lorenzo is $20 or $25 per hour, depending on which location he is at. He's not doing SportsZone anymore, only Sand Lot and a private facility on the south side.

Keep in mind that a lot of these instructors teach different styles of hitting. The names mentioned so far vary anywhere from linear, to hybrid, to fully rotational. What works great for one girl may not work at all for the next.

coolstuff - mind saying who your daughter is? I have a family member that played for Lorenzo for the last 3 or 4 years.

Mike Baker at the the Real Zone. He is great with younger kids. He has worked with my daughter for years and continues to do so as she is in college. He is Great

There are many great hitting instructors. I would recommend you making sure they teach a softball swing and not a baseball swing. Then see how your DD responds and takes to the teacher.

sbaddic: Have you ever seen the "Right View Pro" program and watched the US Olympic softball players swing? Compare an Olympic great to a MLB great. Please let me know where you see a difference in their swings. I dare say that the Olympians are arguably the best players in the world. Do the Olympians have baseball swings or softball swings? My daughter hits with two former MLB players and I would suggest that their tutelage for the past several years aided her in obtaining a D1 scholarship with a quality program/coaching staff. We have been to several camps at D1 schools over the past 5 years and I do not recall any coach telling her that she needed to change her swing. Hitting is hitting and baseball swing vs. softball swing is only fodder for an endless argument. Go to several insructors and find the "right" fit for your daughter based on her abilities, but don't be afraid to change or at least obtain a second opinion.

23Skidoo - I couldn't agree more with you. Actually, both Mike Candrea and Sue Enquist both go on video in the RVP series saying that there is virtually no difference between the two swings.

Find out who this guy is, so we all can stay as far away as possible. I would assume you are 10u or 12u parent that read something on the internet and thought it was gospel.

Slapperdad can provide many more examples if needed.
