Not sure about # of bids. But, Diamonds of the South, State Games and State will be the only qaulifiers! Shouldn't expect more bids then last year i would guess!

If that rationale is correct, we will have qualifiers that award more than 1 berth per event.
Last year Indiana had 5 teams at Nationals that all represented well. Will there be five worthy teams in Indiana this season that are willing to go to Texas in August?

I'm not sure how many people are aware, but ASA changed how many berths are awarded last year. Since berths are awarded on past year registrations the changes take effect for the first time this year.

The new system (See ASA Code changes for 2009 for detail) basically says that for registering 201-999 teams you get 1 berth, 1000-1499 = 2 berths etc with an extra berth for every 500 teams. So the relevant question is how many teams did your ASA association register last year? There are also regional berth that aren't Indiana only that would be available obviously.

We had 2800+ in 08 so my guess is that number will go up for 09 since everybody seems to be jumping on the wagon the last couple of years! Even if they shouldn't have!

How do you get to 2800 teams registered in Indiana? Do you register your Rec ball teams?

FYI Adult registrations don't count only JO Ages. I ask because we hover just over 1000 registrations in MN and I don't think the populations (google shows IN at 6 mil, MN at 5 mil) are that different and seems to be a similar number of travel teams.

I got that info of the ASA site under youth Qualifications and berths! I thought it was high also, but figured they count everything! Same count for 18U! Indiana was #6 w/2834 Minnesota is broken up in 3 area(i believe) Minn ASA #44 w/ 465 St.paul ASA #67 w/ 223 Minn ASA #70 202!
So Indy gets 5 bids Minn 3 bids!(correct?)

Not sure how ASA counts "teams" registered, but yes - in many places the rec leagues get registered as C teams. In the past it has been the easiest and most efficient way to insure rec league players. At Center Grove there were only two travel teams playing/registered as "A" travel teams in ASA, but there were close to 50 "C" teams. If 2800 is the correct number then they are counting C teams as well.
