Purdue Winter Softball Camp

I am sure this happened to your daughters as well. But my daughter, Soph, gets letters or emails "inviting" her to their respective camps. I just assumed this was a marketing ploy to raise money for the program and it really didn't have any recruiting merit to it. I will have to reconsider it from this point forward. How do you differenciate between the ones that are interested in her as a player and the ones that are interested in the money? We have received emails and letters from coaches that have not seen her and yet they want to see her at a camp. What would you do?

Having 2 girls going to college I will put in my 2 cents, If it is a school that your DD is interested in & The school is interested in her, Go to the camp. Do your homework first, They must have her major, Be in an area that will best suit the student etc.

My 2 did not go to any camps other than the ones at exposure tournements, Colorado, Las Vegas etc. This route has worked out for them....Your milage may vary.

Not selling the Indiana girls short at all....If you look at the Purdue roster, it's not exactly loaded with in-state talent. Their coaches, like many others in the mid-west, all too often overlook the homegrown kids in favor of their west coast or southwest counterparts. Our kids are just as talented, and often times more talented, but to a big time program's coach like Purdue's, it is more attractive to potential recruits to have a roster full of kids from out there. The token local kid or two that do land a spot on their roster is there to help with the local fund-raising efforts along with playing ball..! ....and yes, I'm aware of the NCAA rules, 1500 miles is a long way to go look at a school on my dime, and a long ways from home for my kid to play softball..! (it's not like they're looking at multi-million dollar careers in a pro league..)
