Well the INDY CRUSH were definitely on Mr. Toad's Wild Ride IN THE 18U ASA NATIONAL WORLD SERIES. We overcame lots of errors and mistakes, a player leaving us in the middle of the tournament, a player not coming with us to the tournament and many other distractions. We won 3 games in extra innings. In the semi-finals, we were down 3-0 till the top of the 7th when we scored 4 to win in regulation. Later that day we were down 7-1 and scored 6 unlikely runs in one inning to tie it up and then won in the 8th when we scored 2 and held our opponent to 1. We had a really great pitching triumvirate. They complemented each other perfectly with movement and speed. We won the finals of the winners bracket 1-0. Talk about a nail biter. DD said that she never, ever considered us a team that could win that kind of a game. Yet God was smiling on us this day. Amazing part of that game was that with 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th, with our opponents best hitter at the plate with a runner in scoring position, our pitcher was instructed to walk the batter on outside pitches. Well, a couple of those pitches got called for strikes and she had the fire in her belly and went and got her. Struck her out swinging. A true WOW moment!! The Indy Crush played loosely the entire tournament. We had expectations of perhaps a top 20 or 10 finish. But as the victories mounted, the pressure didn't settle in, just incredible awe. It seemed as if each victory was more unlikely than the previous one. All the while, the level of competition was increasing with each victory. Our girls made each and every play that we had to in order to win. Did we play perfectly, our 8-0 record would reflect that. However, we did have our foul-ups, bleeps and blunders. The Crush girls found a way to overcome these miscues and persevered. 2010 Champions, the Stone City Sharks had a bevy of girls on their team who were already playing D1 ball and they were beasts and they rightfully were successful. Even with strength of that team, they lost the first game of the Finals and won in the IF game. Is the Crush team of that caliber? Hardly, but one could make the argument that we did run the table 8-0. The Indy Crush is a TEAM. We have very solid players who have specific roles and play them extremely well. All of our Seniors will be playing in College next year. We have 3 underclassmen. Heck, our starting 2nd Baseman is 15. Who has the moxie to win arguably the best tournament in the country with a player that age? Yes, the Crush were able to put it all together when it counted, each and every game, for 8 consecutive games. Our Coaching Staff deserves an Ovation for their hard work and determination in preparing this team since last fall. The parents in the stands second-guessed lots of coaching moves throughout the tournament, but the girls made them look like geniuses each time we did. It's a lot easier to coach from the stands as every parent knows. Congratulations to Coach Lorenzo Walker, he deserves this ASA National Championship. He has been a wonderful, coach, friend, instructor and over-all steward of this beautiful game of softball. WE READY FOR Y'ALL! HOW SWEET IT IS!
