Non-School Sponsered Participation Rule 15-2

by Stubs » Wed Apr 06, 2011 9:18 pm

Can someone explain the purpose of this IHSAA rule (no more than five from the same HS on a non-school sponsored team during the offseason)? Do all states have this or a similar rule?

I think the thinking is they don't want a high school team competing year round. Give them a break and let them be kids.

FYI, there are no restrictions during the summer, put the whole team together and do whatever you want.

I don't mind the rule so much....just the date when it goes into affect. Highschool ball doesn't start until the first of March, so making the 5 player rule beginning the first week of Aug (before school starts) doesn't seem right. Let the girls play some fall tournaments.

mkirk, "in school" begins week 5 of the IHSAA calendar, which is also the beginning of fall sports practices. This can clearly cause issues with some nationals.
