state tourney hypothetical question

by hittinseedz » Sun Nov 21, 2010 7:32 am

I know this willl never happen but I thought it would be a good discussion. What if pitchers were only allowed to throw as many innings as high school baseball. How many different champions do you think we would have had. I dont think that it would be as pretty in 1a and 2a as some of the schools just dont have the pitching. I think that the upper classes would be real interesting though. I think you would find out who was the best all around team, not just who has the most dominant pitcher. Would be real interesting to see what a team like NP would have done in a state final having to take out Evans in a 1-1 game in the 4th. Or seeing what Avon would do in a regional final having to take out esparza in a scoreless game. Not saying I want this to happen, just getting some opinions on how things would go

I mentioned this once at a meeting with some "high ranking" softball officials. They gave me a combo of these looks:    .

Actually, it was really just one guy who gave me the look; but he's a "high ranking" softball official (in his mind) and doesn't need to explain is thoughts.

I would welcome inning/pitch count in HS softball.

Does the number/quality of your pitching staff influence your opinion?

slapperdad,

Yes, without a doubt. I'm downsizing this season; which may mean we only throw 3 girls (compared to 6 last season).

Golden has looked good this fall. Didn't get a chance to see Lynch pitch.

slapperdad,

They both had some great moments as freshman last year. I'm pretty fortunate to be able to coach them for the next few years.
