What is being missed in this discussion is the drive of the girls! I having 3 DD's that have played for,been trained by, most of the people we are talking about. It doesn't matter if it's craig,brad,joe or john! They all have tons of knowledge, but last time i checked they don't swing or pitch for the girls on the weekend! One night of lessons doesn't mean the teacher is bad when your DD goes 0 for 10 over the weekend! How often is your DD working in the garage in december on her swing? How many pitches does she throw during the week? If they don't work on there own, it doesn't matter! Don't always blame the teacher! Maybe it's the student!! They are all good in what they do! Each girl relates to people differently, find the one your DD likes(not always the one YOU like) and roll with it!!

As for the warship(Frigate 10), All of us have a little avatar or screen name, but we don't really hide who we are. Most of us know who each other and know the names we go by. You seem to be a new poster and already can't handle some good bantering back and forth. You have been accused of being John Feld himself, and if you are, that's okay. If you really are not Mr. Feld, then who are you. Who did your DD play for in the 90's. Maybe she's a legend. Maybe I saw her play. I'm old like you. I had friends at the Last Supper, but maybe you were before me. Maybe you were one of the three wise men at the manger that famous night.

Anyway, if you decide not to post anymore, thanks for your comments and especially your methods described for selecting instructors. Some will agree and some will not, but that's kinda like being an ump. You just roll on.

now that we are all going to play nice, my dd just turned 9 a week ago and I am looking to start her in pitching. Who are the best options? I've heard good and bad about Feld, haven't heard anything about Calcaterra, and good and bad about CJH and Owen Chew. Someone who has been around and can help with selection please do so. Thnx

Dan Sarno if you can find him , otherwise Jason Wise is by far my dd's favorite. She worked with several coaches in the area and found his patience, knowledge and consistency to work best for her. Still gets the tune-ups from him when home from school. He is hard to get into, but worth trying. PM for contact info only.
Keith Smith at Champions Edge has a passion for pitching and is turning out some very good, young talent.

I have daughters that are pitchers and had been going to a local instructor for a few months. For various reasons, we decided to make a change almost a year ago. Tonight, I received a call from the first instructor to tell me he heard who I had changed to and that this person doesn't know how to pitch and teaches from videos and a book. I was told that since I too was a pitcher that I should know that they aren't being taught right. I informed him that since I am a pitcher, I am very comfortable with what is being taught. After almost 5 minutes, I told this person that I felt it was very unprofessional to bad mouth other instructors.

Parents, when looking for instructors I would take a close look at anyone that feels it necessary to degrade other instuctors. I give lessons (of course my kids won't listen to me) and have girls that have been to other instuctors and come to me for various reasons. We all teach differently and what works for one, doesn't work for all. No one person is right about everything!

Cara Hersch-Johnson is a good one to go to in my opinion. She's produced pictures like Jenny Esparza and Brittany Gray. She's good at piecing together the best pitching style for your daughter and is consistent with her times during the week.
