Summer/Fall Camps

Anyone have some feedback on college summer camps...? I recall a thread that suggested Michigan State,which we're going to attend in July. Ball State looks kind of pricey, any reveiws on some other camps around the midwest..? DD really liked Bowling Green's camp but wasn't that impressed with Miami's camp last year.....

Nike Softball Camp is being held at Butler June 14-18.

There will be a pitching camp in Hartford City with Elizabeth Milian. Here is the link for the Thunder Sports web page http://www.thundercamps.com/ . $55 for the pitching/hitting and $35 for the Hitting.

. my kid really liked the coaches at BGSU..we did attend the two day camp at Central Michigan, it was a pretty good camp and their facilities and campus were very nice..! (and their tuition does include snowshoes..!)

I not recommend Nike Softball Camp at Butler or anywhere for that matter. They host the camps so that their teams can get GEAR. The instruction will be the same if you simply attend the Butler Camp. Most coaches would rather have you come to their own camp because it is a fundraiser for the coach and the program. Nike cleans up whenever their name is attached to it.

What are you trying to gain from the camps? Anything specific What age is your daugther or team you are looking for......

I think camps are very useful in terms of advanced instruction and learning new methods to improve a players game, especially for kids in the 6-10 grades range. Once they're playing at the high school level and have aspirations to play at the next level, they're great opportunities to meet coaches and get a feel for how they coach, visit campus, meet current players and ask them questions about the school, and generally use the time to showcase their talents and interact with the colleges' coaches one on one...

Absolutely, jag1! Camps and clinics are a great opportunity for one-on-one time with the college coaches. It is the perfect opportunity to see if there is a "fit" in terms of player-coach relationship. You also have an opportunity to visit the campus to see if the student-school is a good "fit" as well. I have spent a lot of time (and money) over the past four years attending camps and clinics that were within a reasonable driving distance of central Indiana and on others that required some air time, but they were all good experiences and a couple were great. There is no doubt in my mind that this process led to my daughter's scholarship. Of course, the college coaches wanted to see her play in game situations before making their final decision, but without the initial introduction at camp, I don't know if the coaches would have considered watching. Also, the initial introduction is no time to be shy (or over-bearing), so make sure your daughter is prepared and takes advantage of the opportunity. Eye contact and good verbal skills are extremely important. Let your daughter do the communicating!

Attended the Eliziabeth Millian 1 day camp....DD's did not since they do not pitch. I thought it was a great camp...lots of 1 on 1 with her and the other coaches there. She did a great job connecting with the kids and parents alike. I was impressed...
