Picking up All-Star players on your travel team

by oc softball coach » Sat Sep 01, 2012 8:02 am

I'm thinking of picking up All-Star players from the same Rec ball league. There parents would like to continue playing competative softball during this fall season thru the March ASA dead line. Not sure if players will still be eligible to continue All-Stars the fallowing year. Don't want to break any ASA rules or families goals to have there kids continue All-stars
Thank you

Speaking SoCal ASA, players are eligible for Rec All-Stars if they played in more the 50% of the Rec Games and did not practice/play with a TB team on/after April 1st.

That being said, it may not be a good idea to juggle both TB and Rec from Feb-Mar. First of all, what's the point, for only 2 months? Secondly, there's the issue of burnout (2+ practices a week, for EACH team), overuse injuries (as discussed on another thread), weekend game conflicts, and they still have school/homework. So by February (or earlier), they should choose one or the other.

Girls can play with their TB teams whilst playing Rec-ball. There is a deadline wherein they have to stop playing TB to be eligible for the Rec-ball All Star teams. I forgot what date that was.

The date is April 1, but there is an additional rule that says no All Star team may have more than 4 players who played travel after Feb. 1.
