Sacramento Metro Gold teams?

by movinup » Wed Nov 19, 2008 9:05 am

I heard a rumor that the Sacramento Metro met last week and allocated their two gold classifications berths. Whcih teams are classified as gold and who was left out?

Two gold berths? The region has not put forth any such limitation. My understanding from the meeting a month ago was there would be at least seven teams granted Gold status, perhaps nine. Some teams would be granted Gold status based on prior performance at Nationals (Lady Magic winning 16u Nationals, for example), the rest of the positions filled (if necessary) by a "Gold Metro" tourney in January.

What information do you have that this has changed?

From my count, seems to be only (8) teams concerned - Heat; AASA; Magic; Breeze; Crushers; Comets; and Mizuno (2). Did I miss any?

If not, and the number is 7 or more - you might as well just go with them all. Something in January seems like a waste of time.

What about Grapettes, Shockers, R&R and all of the San Jose teams? Do they fall under a different region?

Yes, they do. Sacramento is it's own association. Grapes & RR are in the Stockton, San Jose is NorCal I believe, while east bay is Oakland...

NorCal LVer....I believe that is the plan for this year. They were also talking about the certification lasting for two years.

I believe RR Gold - Eatough is GSSA.

GSSA News November 2008

18 Gold Program – Sacramento ASA has instituted a new classification procedure for becoming a Gold Team. All teams planning on registering for the 18 Gold Program must participate in a January 24 and 25 event. Returning teams that include five or more players from 2008 will be grandfathered into the 2009 program but still must play in the 2009 January event. The Lady Magic and RR Gold will also be automatic participants in the 2009 18 Gold Program due to their play in the 2008 season. They also must play in the January event. Representatives from our Gold teams have met twice to create a system for team classification. I want to thank those representatives that gave their time and expertise to work through a very difficult issue and come up with solutions.

So two teams named up front, others to be named based on roster registration. If ten teams meet the roster criteria, 12 teams form Sac Metro, plus x teams from the tourney. The January tourney will be nothing more than local bragging rights. If the 12 teams (named and roster qualified) finish 1-12, does the 13th place team get named Gold?

Twelve is an arbitrary number here for purposes of discussion.

How many of the RR Gold teams get to be grandfathered in? All 10 or just the main team? I'm sorry, all 3 teams! It seems this is only going to be directed toward any new teams coming in this year right? Because most of the teams up there will be back again. Do the other organizations that have 2 or more teams get to have both automatically in, or does the second team have to qualify?
