Adidas Futures in San Diego

by fastpitchdad05 » Thu Mar 17, 2011 1:15 pm

So I checked out of the online softball scene for about 6 weeks from early Dec to mid to late Jan and somehow missed the Adidas Futures tryouts here in San Diego.

I went back and searched and it seems that Sanders listed a tryout date here on HB but Fox didn't. Did anyone's DD here attend either tryout?

I'm trying to get a general feeling for the Adidas Futures program because I may have my DD try out next year. I'd like feedback on the Pros and Cons if you guys don't mind.

I'm also puzzled as to why Fox didn't post the tryout on HB. Does anyone know why he wouldn't?

Thanks in advance

DD did the "old version" twice, before the one year hiatus and new format. It was a day of drills followed by a day of scrimmages. $100 but girls were given easily, $300 - $400 + worth of really nice Adidas stuff. 1st year there quite a few schools including AZ, UCLA, and that level of schools. The next year there was a significant fall off but still some big name schools like TN (one or both of the Weeklys in those electric orange shirts are always noted when present). Very well done. Former men's fast pitch pitchers pitching the batting stations. Enough reps for all. Pretty well done over all. Not quite as good as the Allisters, but 100 x better than those NFCA cattle calls.

Anyway, no idea how the new format will work out. My feeling is that they were perceptive enough to realize it was fading, surveyed the college coaches and are making insincere effort to put on a worthwhile event. My guess is that the actual "event" will be well done. After they build it, will the coaches come? Time will tell.

Hope that helps?

I appreciate the feedback. Where's DD now? Did this help her get recruited?

Where's DD now?

Senior in HS. Had an 85% offer from one Big 10 school early in her sophomore year, a full ride offer from another Big 10 school. Had some invited walk on interest in the Pac 10. Hosted some DII coaches in our home for the hard sell.

Has received her likely letter from an Ivy - going witht the Bank of Mom & Dad scholarship program!

Did this help her get recruited?

Help? Probably. How much? Probably not much.

Over the last 5 years, she has played for 3 teams in the top 25 one of which is pretty close to the top of this list:

Coaches like having her around, she is a valedictorian, hard working, coachable, almost always happy, good team mate, her parents haven't bitched at a coach since rec ball, 4 1/2 tool player (she hits them over periodically, but that is not her "calling card"), sent out billions of emails with weekly schedules and semester transcripts.

I think that is what got her recruited.

Thank you very much...great information. This is more of what I have read on HB...that if you want your DD recruited you need to contact recruiters and do a lot of the legwork yourself. If only it were as easy as just sitting back and watching, right?

Sounds like you and DD have a decision to make, but it's great that she's done so well on and off the field and has given you guys so many choices...a great thing to have and a great accomplishment.

Thanks again
